Yashirō Shimogamo is the fourth and youngest son of the Shimogamo tanuki family. Born the same year his father, Sōichirō Shimogamo, died, he never knew him personally yet deeply admires tales of his father's legacy. He grapples with significant transformation difficulties because his older brother absorbed most of his powers during childhood, causing frequent glamour failures where his tail appears when startled or stressed. In extreme fright, he fully reverts to a tanuki form smaller than his brothers and marked by a distinctive cowlick.
His personality blends shyness, gentleness, and earnestness. Polite, honest, and easily frightened, he nonetheless strives to overcome his timid nature by earnestly confronting challenges as training opportunities. He harbors a powerful desire to match the bravery of his father and brothers, refusing to retreat from difficulties despite his insecurities. His noted innocence and pure-heartedness are inherited traits from his father.
Yashirō possesses a unique ability among tanuki: he produces modest electrical charges, a skill he uses practically to charge cell phones and takes personal pride in. This contrasts sharply with his poor transformation control, which earns him the nickname "Shirippo Marudashi-kun" ("Tail-Sticking-Out Boy") within Kyoto's tanuki society.
He works at the Faux-Electric Brandy Factory, operated by the rival Ebisugawa family, as part of his training. There, he endures persistent bullying from his cousins Kinkaku and Ginkaku Ebisugawa but perseveres, believing the hardship will build his strength. His role involves menial tasks, and his interactions with the Ebisugawas underscore his resilience.
Yashirō deeply admires his family, particularly his brother Yasaburō, whom he often accompanies. He avoids burdening them and draws fierce motivation from their examples. His mother provides unconditional support, steadfastly reinforcing his self-worth regardless of his struggles.
Throughout his development, Yashirō manifests unexpected courage during critical moments. He surprises others by acting bravely when his family faces danger, confronting threats or aiding rescues, revealing inner strength beneath his perceived fragility. This growth reflects his ongoing journey toward self-confidence and familial pride.
