Description
Vidaux Volker was a police inspector until a personal tragedy struck: his wife died in a hit-and-run. Driven by vengeance, he tracked down and killed the responsible driver. In the aftermath, he adopted the driver's daughter, Mayuka, becoming her guardian and caretaker. He left law enforcement to work as a contractor for the mercenary organization Destruct, operating as a hitman undertaking dangerous assignments for pay.
He traverses war-scarred regions in a custom vehicle housing an AI navigator named Graham, utilizing it as both transport and tactical support. On a Destruct mission, he rescued Derrida Yvain from militarized autonomous machines (DZs). Learning of Derrida's quest to find Nathan's daughter Mage and stop the escalating war fueled by corrupted DZs, Vidaux agreed to help. He became Derrida's protector and partner, his combat expertise, strategic mind, and mercenary contacts proving vital for missions like infiltrating the Rebuild facility and evading government agents.
His relationship with Mayuka evolves significantly. Initially motivated by guilt over killing her biological father, he prioritizes shielding her from his violent work. Shared experiences in the conflict deepen their bond, with Mayuka acting as an emotional anchor that gradually softens his pragmatic, detached nature. Flashbacks and explorations of their past reveal his deep commitment, framing his actions as atonement. He exhibits fierce protectiveness, especially when Mayuka is threatened, like during a dangerous charge through a DZ graveyard.
His interactions with the AI Graham showcase his technological comfort and reliance on practical solutions during high-pressure situations like car chases or firefights. His personality remains pragmatic and adaptable, focused on immediate problem-solving and survival. While initially motivated by contract payments, his involvement in Derrida's mission shifts his focus towards ending the war and securing a safer future for Mayuka. This marks a transition from purely mercenary objectives to an investment in achieving lasting stability.
