Description
Derrida Yvain, a robotics engineer at his father Jacques Yvain's company Rebuild, co-developed the advanced "Autonomous Machine DZ" (DZ) automata integrated into society. Alongside colleague Nathan Bilstein, he discovered a critical flaw in the DZ programming that could cause catastrophic loss of control. Despite their warnings, Rebuild's leadership, particularly boss Hans Andrei, refused to authorize a recall or patch.

Shortly after attending the eighth birthday party of Nathan's daughter, Mage Bilstein, Derrida faced attacks orchestrated by Andrei. During his escape, Nathan was killed. Fleeing into the woods guided by a hallucination of Mage, Derrida found an underground cryostasis facility. With limited options, he sealed himself inside a cryogenic pod, entering suspended animation for ten years.

Awakening into a world devastated by war with rogue DZs attacking humanity, Derrida was driven by Nathan's dying request to "take care of Mage." Rescued by Vidaux Völker, a former police inspector turned mercenary, and his adopted daughter Mayuka, Derrida learned Mage was initially reported dead by her friend Yuri Dietrich but was later revealed missing, intensifying his search.

After awakening, Derrida manifested a unique ability termed "time leaping" or "time riding." This allowed him to project his current consciousness into his past self during moments of strong emotional resonance or vivid memory, facilitated by his near-perfect recall of events from ten years prior due to cryostasis. He could make minor alterations to the past, though each moment could only be revisited once.

Derrida exhibited intense determination but also emotional volatility, struggling with guilt over creating the DZs and failing to protect those close to him. This included his father Jacques, murdered by Andrei's agents, with whom Derrida had a fraught relationship marked by feelings of neglect and unresolved conflict. His guilt also extended to Nathan's death and his perceived failure to safeguard Mage.

His quest evolved from finding Mage to obtaining the DZ patch needed to stop the war, discovering the DZs' malfunction was intentional, part of a war profiteering conspiracy. Alongside Vidaux, Mayuka, and Yuri, Derrida navigated the war-torn landscape, facing threats from Andrei's assassins and rogue government factions.

Derrida's arc culminated in using time leaping to return to the past and prevent the DZ catastrophe. He successfully altered events, ensuring the patch was deployed and the war never occurred. In the restored timeline, he reunited with an adult Mage, developing a romantic relationship and fulfilling his promise to protect her.
