Description
James Vega emerged from a troubled family background. His father, Joshua Sanders, drew him into crime, including a San Diego drug deal where James retrieved a package while evading police. This nearly derailed his military hopes, but his uncle Emilio Vega intervened. Emilio convinced James that his father wouldn't report him to avoid self-implication, stressing James alone controlled his future path. James subsequently enlisted in the Systems Alliance Marines at Camp Pendleton in 2176.
Assigned early to the remote colony Fehl Prime with the Alliance special forces unit Delta Squad, Vega faced a Blood Pack mercenary invasion led by the krogan Archuk. When their shuttle crashed, incapacitating Captain Toni, Lieutenant Vega assumed command. He engineered a tactical gambit, challenging Archuk to a duel as a distraction.
