Description
Shō Shishimaru serves as a doctor for the international charity Earth Doctors, a front for the secret resistance society Hermes' Wings, which opposes the fascist Godom Empire. His humanitarian drive to save lives motivates his work. Recognizing this compassion, the leader of Hermes' Wings, the General, identifies Shō as his potential successor and the prophesied Savior destined to defeat Godom.
Shō experiences prophetic visions, foreseeing the General's assassination and later an ambush by Godom forces in Tokyo. During meditation in Izumo, these visions intensify, revealing apocalyptic scenarios of Godom's invasion and encounters with Reptilian aliens. Indian Buddhist monks, led by Chief Dalani, then declare him the reincarnation of Shakyamuni Buddha and the latest incarnation of the cosmic Savior El Cantare, whose past lives include the ancient Incan king Rient Arle Croud. This destiny marks him as the figure foretold to defeat demonic forces and usher in an era of human-spirit coexistence.
Following the General's assassination by the traitorous Hermes' Wings member Chief Urano, Shō assumes leadership of the resistance. To prevent bloodshed during an attempt to destroy Godom's "Ultimate Destruction Weapon," he surrenders to Godom forces. Emperor Tathagata Killer televises Shō's public crucifixion and execution by firing squad globally to crush resistance morale and faith in the Savior. His death triggers widespread despair, only countered when Leika Chan—revealed as the Venusian princess Theta—revives him through divine intervention after prayers to the God of Earth.
Resurrected, Shō awakens fully as the Savior, gaining memories of past lives and wielding the Symbol of the Savior, an artifact retrieved from Lake Titicaca, as a staff of authority. Empowered by global collective prayer, he confronts and defeats the demon possessing Tathagata Killer. After witnessing the Godom Empire's collapse and receiving advanced technology from Theta, including a significant shared moment, Shō becomes the new General of Hermes' Wings. He embarks on global journeys to spread spiritual teachings, rebuild societies, and establish temples, as depicted in the film's closing sequences.
