Maia is a female mercenary possessing light red hair cropped at her neck and striking red eyes. She is typically armed with a sword and wears distinctive midriff-baring boots. Carving out an independent existence as a highly experienced combatant, she relies solely on skills forged in the crucible of a mercenary's harsh existence. Her straightforward and easygoing nature fosters popularity among fellow fighters, yet she remains coldly dismissive of romantic pursuits by men. This stems from rejecting the advances of a wealthy individual she once guarded, earning his deep-seated resentment. She began her career within the Kuroinu mercenary group under Vault's command. During this time, Vault saved her life, fostering her view of him as reliable and igniting personal feelings. Despite this history, Maia eventually departed Kuroinu after being personally selected by the high elf Celestine to serve as one of the Seven Shields Alliance's princess knights, dedicated to protecting Eostia. Following Kuroinu's betrayal of the Alliance and their subsequent establishment of a new nation enforcing the sexual servitude of women, Maia became a determined adversary of her former comrades. Her opposition ended when Vault orchestrated her defeat, resulting in her capture as the fourth princess knight (third in the OVA adaptation). This placed her among the women subjected to the exploitative regime.
