Description
Regal Bryant is a 33-year-old human male with light purple hair and eyes, standing 189 cm tall. He hails from Altamira, where he previously served as president of the powerful Lezareno Company until his imprisonment. His life took a tragic turn after falling in love with Alicia Combatir, an employee in his household. Facing opposition due to class differences, Regal's assistant George handed Alicia over to the Exsphere broker Vharley for the Angelus Project. To retrieve her, Regal traded the Toize Valley Mine, only to discover Alicia transformed into a monster by her Exsphere's mana corruption. Forced to end her suffering, he killed her, then turned himself in and was imprisoned for murder.

As self-imposed penance, Regal wears iron handcuffs, symbolizing his vow never to use his hands to kill again. This oath shapes his combat style; he exclusively employs a specialized kicking technique enhanced by greaves. Initially struggling with this method, he mastered it through rigorous training advised by a fellow inmate. His leg strength and speed compensate for his restricted arms, making him a formidable fighter. Before imprisonment, he primarily fought with his hands, a style he acknowledges as significantly more powerful than his current techniques.

Regal enters the narrative as a convict sent by the Pope of Tethe'alla to capture Colette Brunel. He first confronts the party in the Meltokio Sewers and later in Gaoracchia Forest. There, his recognition of Presea Combatir—Alicia's younger sister—shakes him. After a failed attempt to remove Presea's Exsphere and a subsequent battle, he joins the group under Zelos Wilder's supervision. During their travels, Regal reveals extensive knowledge of Tethe'allan history and culture, eventually guiding the party to Altamira. There, he reclaims his identity as Duke Bryant to save George from Vharley and confronts his past at Alicia's gravesite. Alicia's spirit absolves him of guilt, though Presea struggles to forgive him.

His character development involves accepting responsibility for Alicia's death while committing to Lloyd Irving's cause. Depending on his bond with Lloyd, Regal either accompanies him to Derris-Kharlan after being possessed by Mithos or aids in freeing Welgaia's prisoners alongside Presea. In both outcomes, he resolves to support Lloyd fully.

Two years later, during events in Izoold, Regal is wrongly imprisoned after a fire incident involving a gel salesman named Berg. Accused of arson, he is exonerated when Emil Castagnier's party proves a monster caused the blaze. If chosen during a key decision, Lloyd mentions their continued partnership.

Personality-wise, Regal maintains a calm, polite, and gentlemanly demeanor despite his rugged appearance. He is reserved yet deeply principled. His hobbies include cooking, where he ranks second in skill within the party, and cultural scholarship. His combat style incorporates limited chi magic like Healer and Grand Healer, supplementing his physical artes.
