Masamune Shinmei, a necromancer in training under Tsubaki Shikibe, serves the Giou Clan by guarding the Evil Spirit Gates while honing his craft at the Kamakura residence. His lineage is shadowed by his father Suzaku, a disgraced necromancer who summoned the entity Cadenza during the Garan house tragedy, causing the deaths of Senshirou Furuori’s grandfather and several Giou members. The clan exiled Masamune’s family in the aftermath, leaving his mother Kayako Shinmei to raise him and his brother alone until her mental collapse drove her to abandon them. Desperate, Masamune pledged himself to Takashiro Giou, securing his family’s safety in exchange for dedicating his life to necromancy.
A turning point arises when Story 60 reveals Masamune harbors dual souls—his own and Suzaku’s. This duality culminates in Suzaku seizing control of Masamune’s body after Yuki kills Kayako, unmasked as a murderer. The consequences of this possession and its impact on Masamune’s autonomy linger unresolved.
Despite Suzaku’s role in their shared tragedy, Masamune coexists with Kuroto and Senshirou in Kamakura without overt conflict or resentment. Their interactions remain layered with unspoken history, hinting at tensions buried beneath surface civility.
