Description
Yūki Sanada serves as vice-captain of Ishigami High School's sumo club. He stands 175 cm tall, weighs 121 kg, and possesses a heavy build with black hair and eyes. His typical attire includes black glasses—removed during matches—and a white sleeve covering his right elbow. For sumo, he wears Ishigami High's beige mawashi featuring a light green stripe near the front.

Despite his imposing physique, Sanada maintains a soft-spoken, eloquent demeanor. He acts as the nurturing "good cop" to teammate Sada Mizuki while displaying pragmatic strategy, such as using false starts to unsettle opponents like Shinya Ozeki for psychological advantage. Juniors speculated he was a reformed delinquent after the "Night of Blood Spray" incident, where he single-handedly defended the sumo club against approximately 30 delinquents using boxing techniques—refusing to employ sumo, which he deemed "wasted on scum." He then called teammate Tsuyoshi Kanamori to resign, intending to shoulder full responsibility and protect the club's reputation.

Sanada integrates boxing techniques with his sumo skills for defensive and offensive adaptations. Having practiced sumo since elementary school—a near-decade-long career—Kanamori states he "loves sumo more than anyone." This devotion manifests in his reaction to witnessing Ozeki train alone for two years under harsh conditions: initial empathy transformed into awe, making Sanada question his own commitment compared to Ozeki's perseverance.

During their Chiba Prefectural Preliminary bout at the National High School Sumo Championships, Sanada opened with a false-start charge to disrupt Ozeki's focus. When Ozeki resisted, the match escalated into a deadlock. Sanada attempted a throw at the ring's edge, but both fell out simultaneously—Sanada touching down first to lose. The outcome highlighted his physical sacrifice for sumo while acknowledging Ozeki's superior dedication.

Post-graduation, Sanada enrolled in university but dropped out due to an abrupt marriage. He subsequently began working at a plumbing company, departing from competitive sumo.
