Description
Ryuuto Sakurai is the biological son of Kanako Sakurai and Suwa Takumi, the latter dying before Ryuuto's birth during an attempt to save a cat. Close friendship between Kanako and Yui Amano (Tooko Amano's mother) meant Ryuuto grew up alongside Tooko's family. After Tooko's parents died in a car accident, Kanako adopted Tooko, making Ryuuto and Tooko foster siblings.

A first-year student at a nearby boys' high school, Ryuuto maintains a close relationship with Tooko, aware of her unique habit of consuming literature. He often jokes about their sibling dynamic while remaining protective. His romantic involvements gravitate towards girls with dark or troubled emotions, whom he describes as "dangerous." This included dating Hotaru Amemiya, who suffered a terminal illness and died after stabbing him during a psychotic episode, and later, Chia Takeda, whose cheerful demeanor masks an inability to understand human emotions.

Ryuuto exhibits manipulative tendencies, particularly targeting Konoha Inoue. He forces Konoha to write novels by threatening Tooko's potential disappearance and actively sabotages Konoha's relationship with Nanase Kotobuki to provoke emotional turmoil, driven by an obsession with ensuring Konoha continues writing. Ryuuto believes he is the reincarnation of his father, Takumi, who was infatuated with Tooko's mother, Yui, and provided the poison used in the car accident that killed Tooko's parents. Mirroring his father, Ryuuto pursues multiple older women and harbors complex feelings toward Tooko's family.

In the series' finale, Ryuuto's actions escalate as he investigates his family's past. He confronts Konoha about the nature of authorship and reveals his desire for a partner who might kill him to ensure eternal commitment. His turmoil peaks upon learning the intertwined relationships of his parents through Kanako's semi-autobiographical novel, "Immoral is the Gate," exploring themes of love and betrayal among Tooko's parents and his own mother. This leads to a climactic confrontation where Ryuuto expresses a death wish, though he ultimately survives.

Following these events, Ryuuto stabilizes his relationship with Chia Takeda. They have a son named Yuuto, indicating a shift toward a more settled life.
