TV Special
Description
Commander James Hawkins commands the Galaxy Alliance stellar ship S.S. Explorer and leads the Vehicle Voltron team. His primary mission explores uncharted territories to find habitable planets for the Alliance's overpopulated worlds, frequently working alongside Captain Newley.
Hawkins exhibits a rigid adherence to protocol, sometimes casting him in an anti-heroic light. During the "Help not Wanted" incident, he refused deployment of Voltron during negotiations, even as an enemy fleet attacked Alliance support vessels. This decision nearly caused catastrophic losses. He later punished the disobedient Vehicle Force pilots with a "specially prepared meal," revealed as ordinary butterscotch.
In the *Fleet of Doom* conflict, Hawkins coordinated Galaxy Alliance defenses against King Zarkon and the Drule Empire's combined fleet. He directed both the Lion Force and Vehicle Voltron teams to protect the Alliance's secret power base.
Within the Devil's Due Publishing comics, Hawkins recruits five military personnel for a classified mission. His character design and role originate from the Japanese series *Armored Fleet Dairugger XV*, though his rank and authority were adapted for the English-language version. His name references the protagonist of Robert Louis Stevenson's *Treasure Island*.
