Description
Melon, a steel Akikan originating from a melon soda can, transforms into a human girl after her first interaction with owner Kakeru Daichi. She becomes central to Kakeru's involvement in the "Akikan Elect" project, a government initiative determining steel or aluminum can superiority through battles among anthropomorphized can girls. Her appearance features blonde hair and green eyes reflecting her melon soda origins.

Her personality is competitive and strong-willed, leading to frequent arguments with Kakeru. Despite romantic feelings for him, she struggles to express her emotions authentically, often saying the opposite of her true intentions, creating a communication barrier. She harbors a distinct hatred for aluminum Akikans, frequently quarreling with Yell, an aluminum sports drink Akikan. She unexpectedly enjoys watching baseball, particularly late-night broadcasts, though she admits to not understanding the game's rules.

In Akikan Elect battles, Melon employs "cool drink sorcery" powered by carbon dioxide, including her signature "Melo-Melo-Melon" carbonation attack. She initially participates in the steel-versus-aluminum conflict but later opposes the project alongside Kakeru and allies. Her tsundere traits manifest as jealousy when Kakeru interacts with other Akikans or drinks alternative beverages, sometimes reacting violently to perceived threats to their bond.

Created as one of several Akikans for the experiment, her background includes a rivalry with aluminum Akikans like Yell and Budoko in the anime. The light novel continuity expands her role, depicting her accidental near-fatal attack on Budoko during a mandated battle and her subsequent relationship with Shiruko, another steel Akikan later owned by Kakeru. An OVA features her in a hot springs scenario emphasizing communal interactions.

Her development across media remains limited. The anime's second half shifts toward episodic comedy, reducing focus on her combat role or emotional growth. A key moment involves learning about Kakeru's traumatic past where he injured kidnappers to protect his childhood friend Najimi; this deepens her protective loyalty toward him. Her foundational traits—combative yet emotionally conflicted—persist throughout all appearances without major evolution.
