Description
Ayako Kawasaki attends Fujigaya Girls' Academy as a third-year student during Akira Okudaira and Kyōko Ikumi's first year. She belongs to the school's drama club. For a school festival production of *Wuthering Heights*, Ayako performs the role of Catherine opposite Yasuko Sugimoto as Heathcliff. Their portrayals attract significant notice, including a newspaper headline invoking their characters: "Catherine Heathcliff Honeymoon in England."
Following her graduation from Fujigaya, Ayako relocates to England for study abroad. Yasuko Sugimoto later also moves to England. During a subsequent visit back to Japan, Yasuko mentions seeing Ayako regularly overseas, though she minimizes making specific efforts to meet her during that return trip. When questioned about their relationship, Yasuko characterizes it as "taking it slow" and "letting our love blossom," hinting at a possible romantic link.
However, during events related to Kyōko Ikumi's wedding, Ayako is hospitalized in England suffering from appendicitis. Reports confirm her boyfriend and roommate are providing care, clarifying her romantic involvement is with a male partner, not Yasuko. This indicates the suggested romance between Ayako and Yasuko did not evolve into a long-term relationship.
Ayako's participation in the drama club underscores her school activity involvement. Her move to England concludes her direct presence within the narrative. Subsequent interactions involving Ayako occur only through recollections or indirect mentions by other characters after her graduation.
