Description
Kurobe, an Oni, serves as the Jura-Tempest Federation's premier blacksmith. Hailing from a family of blacksmiths, he was master blacksmith for his Ogre village before its destruction in the Orc War. As one of only six Ogre survivors, he initially attacked Rimuru Tempest under the mistaken belief Rimuru caused the devastation. After resolving this misunderstanding, Kurobe and the others joined Rimuru's settlement.

Feeling depressed and unneeded in the new village, Kurobe met the dwarf blacksmith Kaijin. Their shared passion for forging sparked an immediate friendship, restoring Kurobe's sense of purpose. Rimuru subsequently named him, evolving him from an Ogre to a Kijin. This transformation altered his appearance from a grey, muscular Ogre to that of an average middle-aged man, a change Rimuru noted with kinship. His personality shifted from stoic and downtrodden to cheerful and optimistic, and he pledged his forging skills entirely to Rimuru.

As a Kijin and later an Oni, Kurobe dedicates himself solely to blacksmithing, not combat. Despite being the physically weakest among the Kijin, his strength and stamina remain exceptional, demonstrated by single-handedly hauling thirty tons of metal over a kilometer. His craftsmanship is legendary, earning him the title "Legend Forge-Talker." He initially mistook this as the name of a rival and vowed to surpass them. His creations frequently achieve legendary status, including everyday items like garden hoes, kitchen knives, and utensils. These often become excessively powerful, such as a spoon and fork set capable of tearing through a table when used by Veldora.

Gentle, kind, and polite despite his formidable appearance, Kurobe shares a recurring comedic dynamic with Kaijin. Their lengthy, passionate blacksmithing discussions frequently bore onlookers like Rimuru. A franchise-wide running gag involves his face rarely being shown; he is consistently omitted from light novel and manga covers, and in anime openings, his face is obscured, for instance by tree branches. Spin-off media sometimes feature him humorously complaining about this lack of visibility.

Within Tempest's daily life, Kurobe contributes by forging tools, such as agricultural implements. He notably crafted a sturdy hoe for Gobta following a battle victory, which Gobta initially dismissed but later used efficiently. His role remains focused on supporting the federation through his unparalleled forging skills, avoiding direct conflict or diplomacy.
