Description
Momo Belia Deviluke is a fictional character from the manga and anime series To Love-Ru and its sequel To Love-Ru Darkness. She is the third princess of the planet Deviluke, the younger sister of Lala Satalin Deviluke, and the younger twin sister of Nana Astar Deviluke. In To Love-Ru Darkness, she becomes one of the primary protagonists, taking a central role in the narrative.
Momo is a young girl with short pink hair and purple eyes, and like all Devilukeans, she possesses a tail that is notably sensitive to touch. Her typical attire often features a Gothic Lolita style with black and green colors, though she also regularly wears a school uniform after enrolling at Sainan High. On the surface, she presents a sweet, graceful, and friendly demeanor, but this outer persona masks a deeply calculating and strategically minded personality. She is highly intelligent, though less so than her older sister Lala, and is an expert in extraterrestrial botany. When angered, she can become terrifying and sadistic, a stark contrast to her usual gentle nature.
Her defining motivation in To Love-Ru Darkness is her deep romantic love for Rito Yuki, the human protagonist who is already engaged to her sister Lala. Unwilling to create conflict by pursuing Rito exclusively for herself, Momo devises and executes the Harem Plan. This plan, originally suggested by Lala, aims to make Rito the next King of Deviluke, which would allow him to marry multiple partners under the laws of their galaxy. Momo actively works to cultivate romantic relationships between Rito and the other girls who have feelings for him, including herself. She frequently arranges situations to bring them closer and encourages Rito to become more assertive in romance. Despite her confident scheming, she experiences moments of doubt and jealousy, particularly when she sees Rito showing strong affection for others, which adds depth to her character.
Momo shares a close but occasionally competitive bond with her twin sister Nana, with whom she frequently argued during childhood. She looks up to her older sister Lala and maintains a strong familial connection with both. Her relationship with Rito is the emotional core of her character arc, as she dedicates herself to his happiness while also hoping to secure her own place by his side. She also interacts extensively with the other girls in Rito's orbit, often viewing them through the lens of the Harem Plan and working to include them in her scheme.
Momo possesses the unique ability to communicate with and command plants. This power allows her to understand and manipulate flora from various worlds, and she has traveled the galaxy befriending plant life. She uses a specialized D-Dial device, given to her by Lala, to summon and control extraterrestrial plants for various purposes. This botanical ability sets her apart from her sisters and serves as her primary means of influencing situations, whether for combat support, reconnaissance, or everyday tasks. She is also highly skilled in household management, cooking, and cleaning, taking care of these duties during her stay at the Yuki household. Throughout the series, Momo develops from a recurring secondary character into a main protagonist whose actions drive much of the romantic comedy and strategic plotting in To Love-Ru Darkness.
