Description
Koyomi Morishita is a 15-year-old high school freshman standing just 146 cm tall, her short stature frequently leading strangers to mistake her for an elementary school student in casual clothes. Academically average and unathletic, she enrolled at the Anehara Cross School of Magic seeking greater self-esteem after discovering an old pamphlet, becoming a student of the powerful modern mage Misa Anehara.
Her magic possesses a unique constraint: any spell she casts or any magical effect targeting her unconsciously rewrites into code summoning metal washbasins, which manifest above people's heads. Initially dismissed as a comedic flaw or "lame power," this ability evolves throughout the narrative. It renders her nearly immune to hostile magic, but carries physical risk—excessive code rewriting causes capillary damage, leaving her vulnerable when pushed past her limits.
She forms a close bond with Yumiko Ichinose, a silver-haired natural mage. Their dynamic mixes comedic moments like Koyomi accidentally encountering Yumiko's undergarments with genuine emotional support, often met by Yumiko's tsundere reactions. Koyomi also befriends class representative Kaho Sakazaki, who excels in modern magic despite being unable to perceive entities like daemons or ghostscripts.
A pivotal development occurs when Koyomi travels back in time to Yumiko's childhood. There, she intervenes to save a cat destined to die and become a ghostscript (a residual magical memory). This creates a stable time loop where Yumiko's admiration for her future savior—unknownst to both—is cemented. This act highlights Koyomi's growing courage in facing danger despite seeing herself as clumsy.
Her personality blends persistent insecurity with incremental determination. A self-described "klutzy crybaby" who perseveres through stumbling effort, she gradually accepts her role in magical conflicts, particularly against threats like the sorceress possessing Yumiko. Her evolution culminates in recognition as the group's "secret weapon," capable of disrupting even the most potent magical threats through her basin-summoning ability.
