Description
Tatiana "Tanya" Vishneva, a Russian piano student, shares the same Parisian boarding house as the main characters during their studies in France. She fled her cold Russian hometown for France at seventeen, encountering significant challenges adapting to the cultural shift. Locals in Russia had mocked her piano ambitions, and she saw no promising job prospects there.

Initially, Tanya exhibited mediocre piano skills, her technical flaws evident in performances. Her dedication to music was often questioned due to inconsistent practice and a greater focus on leisure activities like vacation planning than musical development. Poor academic grades complicated her progress. Fearing forced graduation and a return to Russia without a scholarship, she relied on achieving high competition rankings to secure financial support and remain in France.

Tanya's personal life centered on finding a wealthy foreign husband to avoid returning home, contributing to a self-centered and occasionally volatile personality. Loneliness during long practice sessions led her to avoid rigorous study. Her romantic interest shifted toward Yasunori Kuroki, an oboist acquaintance. Though initially perceiving him as gloomy and unappealing, her feelings grew, culminating in visible jealousy when Kuroki interacted closely with Rima, a new Japanese piano student. This jealousy prompted impulsive actions, like adding wine to spaghetti and igniting it.

After confronting Kuroki about Rima, Tanya learned he was merely assisting her per a professor's request. This clarification led Tanya to generously offer Rima accommodation, causing tension with housemates concerned about noise.

Following a competition loss alongside fellow student Yunlong Li, Tanya intensified her piano practice, focusing seriously on an upcoming concour. This shift reflected her growing resolve to avoid returning to Russia and her transition from relying on romantic solutions toward self-reliance. Her evolving commitment marked a significant departure from her earlier approach as she confronted the isolation of practice and worked to overcome her academic challenges.
