Description
Commander Kagisu holds high rank in the East Autonomy Military, based primarily on Sentan Island. He possesses a tall stature, fair skin, sharp blue eyes, and short dark hair shaved on the sides, marked by a distinctive mole beneath his right eye. He consistently wears his military uniform from prior service in Barador.
During that Barador deployment, Kagisu faced mortal peril and was rescued by Ryuzo Takehara. This event gains significance later when he learns that Ryuzo's son, Akiyuki Takehara, is missing after a bus explosion on Sentan Island. Recognizing the shared surname, Kagisu connects Akiyuki to his rescuer and arranges a meeting with Ryuzo through his secretary, Prois Sukkaki; Ryuzo does not attend.
Kagisu oversees military operations concerning Xam'd and Humanform Weapon research. He observes a dormant Xam'd encased in stone under Dr. Kanba's supervision. When Dr. Kanba reveals unauthorized experiments injecting Hiruko into volunteers, including student Shidara, Kagisu reacts furiously. Despite Kagisu's objections, Dr. Kanba justifies the actions as necessary for the war. Kagisu is later dispatched to contain Shidara after she transforms into a rampaging Humanform Weapon. After an ASP user incapacitates her, he personally executes her, recalling Dr. Kanba's assertion that they are destined to be war criminals regardless of choice.
His command decisions emphasize utilitarian priorities. During the awakening of the Test-Type Xam'd at military training grounds, he orders civilian safety as the highest priority and directs trainees to eliminate the creature. Following trainee Furuichi Teraoka's success, Kagisu recruits him and Haru Nishimura for a mission to Tsumebara Pass. There, he reveals the true objective is securing a rare green soulstone, not locating a missing ASP unit. Furuichi later informs him that Akiyuki has become a Xam'd allied with Raigyo Tsunomata.
Kagisu struggles with guilt and disillusionment from his wartime actions. He expresses a desire to end his suffering, asking Ryuzo if he is prepared to kill him. When Ryuzo refuses, Kagisu attempts suicide by firing a bullet into himself. Ryuzo intervenes, providing life-saving medical care and later employing Kagisu as a housekeeper in his clinic, reflecting their complex relationship rooted in debt and regret.
Kagisu maintains a strained familial connection. He refers to his mother, Sumako Kagisu, as deceased, though she is alive. The nature of their relationship and his reasons for denying her existence remain unexplored.
