Description
Setsuko Koike serves as a nurse in the medical wing of Shonan Special Disciplinary School, her chest-length black hair later trimmed to a chin-length style, framing brown eyes that reflect her gentle demeanor. Clad in a nurse uniform, her timid kindness draws her into the lives of inmates, particularly Rokurouta Sakuragi, whose injuries from protecting others deepen their bond. Nursing him sparks a quiet romance, mutual yet unspoken, compelling her to shelter him and fellow escapees despite the peril.
When Sakuragi dies, she gravitates toward Mario Minakami, seeing echoes of her lost love in his traits. Familial duty soon intervenes: her father’s failing factory demands a strategic marriage to businessman Toshio Norimatsu, forcing her to relinquish personal desires. At her wedding, she bids Mario a bittersweet farewell, her heart lingering between past affections and present obligation.
Previously independent after relocating for work, she uncovers the reformatory’s hidden cruelty—abuses orchestrated by Ishihara and Sasaki—fueling her resolve to aid inmates at great personal risk. Her clandestine medical care and empathy earn their unwavering respect.
Adopting the Norimatsu surname seals her transition into duty-bound adulthood, distancing her from the reformatory’s shadows. Departing that world, she carries unresolved yearnings but leaves an enduring legacy of quiet courage, her compassion a beacon amid sacrifice.
