Description
Elmer Snell operated as an ace mobile suit pilot for the Principality of Zeon throughout the One Year War, spearheading attacks on the European front. He commanded a customized MS-06J Zaku II Ground Type, instantly recognizable by its all-white armor and distinctive lizard emblems emblazoned on the shoulder shield and left forehead section. This unique visual signature led opposing Earth Federation Forces to dub him "The White Ogre."

His combat record featured numerous successful engagements against Federation forces, specializing in the destruction of Type 61 main battle tanks. Snell demonstrated exceptional marksmanship with the Zaku bazooka and utilized analytical tactical skills, assessing enemy mobilization patterns to identify priority targets. He consistently maintained a calm and level-headed demeanor during combat operations. Personality assessments, however, indicated ruthless cruelty towards enemy combatants, especially tank crews. This manifested in deliberate crushing and stomping actions against disabled Type 61 tanks using his Zaku's legs. During one such engagement, this behavior inflicted permanent physical disfigurement on Federation tank commander Herman Yandell and nearly caused life-long crippling injuries, forging a lasting adversarial relationship between the two soldiers.

Psychological evaluations noted Snell developed significant trauma following this event, described as being "haunted by the Death God." This experience fueled an intense personal grudge specifically against Yandell, with both commanders driven by a desire for final resolution through direct combat. This rivalry became a core motivation in Snell's subsequent operations.

On July 26, U.C.0079, during a critical engagement, Earth Federation Forces misinformation successfully isolated Snell and his mobile suit team from the main Zeon advance. This tactical error allowed them to directly pursue Yandell's tank platoon. While Snell eliminated both supporting pilots and destroyed eight Type 61 tanks during the confrontation, he overlooked Yandell's strategically hidden reserve unit. This oversight proved fatal when the concealed tank fired upon Snell's Zaku, striking the backpack assembly. Repeated impacts ruptured the cockpit section, resulting in Snell's death.
