Description
Thirteen-year-old Ran Isozaki awakens to telepathic and telekinetic powers during her first year of junior high. These abilities let her sense thoughts, move objects mentally, and experience premonitions. Initially, they trouble her, as they reveal people's ill intentions or cause unintended misfortune, fueling self-doubt about her nature.

She lives with a supportive nuclear family: her novelist mother Reina Isozaki, her father Ronpei Isozaki who works in pickled foods, and her older brother Rin Isozaki. Rin frequently helps interpret her psychic experiences and coaches her ability usage. Ran shares a strong bond with her two cats, Kishō and Tenketsu.

Ran is kind, energetic, and occasionally naive, with notable intuition and emotional sensitivity. She often cries for others and helps classmates in difficulty. When loved ones face danger, she acts rashly, though she also exhibits a playful, teasing side with family and friends. Academically, she sometimes achieves unexpected success despite minimal preparation, bewildering her studious friend Saeko Itō. She participates in track and field, excelling at running.

Her development centers on accepting her supernatural capabilities, overcoming early fears of being seen as monstrous when her powers surface at school. Midori Naha, another psychic who shifts from antagonist to essential partner, proves fundamental to Ran's growing confidence and mastery. Ran also relies on childhood friend Rui Ayase, who can neutralize or amplify psychic powers. Ran harbors romantic feelings for Rui, establishing a supportive dynamic where he consistently affirms his appreciation for her true nature.

Ran applies her developing abilities with Midori and Rui to investigate mysterious occurrences, from everyday school issues to supernatural phenomena involving local deities. These episodic cases reinforce her collaborative problem-solving, strengthen her empathy, and build her proficiency in power application and interpersonal understanding. By the series conclusion, Ran shows significantly improved control and solidified self-acceptance, though a narrative hook suggests ongoing development when she hears another psychic voice similar to Midori's initial contact.

In appearance, she has short brown hair and brown eyes in the anime, while her manga depiction shows lighter hair and green eyes. A childhood nickname, "Chara," references her scatterbrained tendencies.
