Description
Leslie Madofu, a composer of mixed heritage with one-quarter Native American roots, carries ancestral ties to Fayau—a woman from a prehistoric Mongolian tribe. Through her, he inherits a stone talisman shaped like a red deer, originally carved by Fayau’s lover Bogdo as a protective charm. This artifact binds Leslie to a legacy spanning millennia, symbolizing both his inherited destiny and the enduring power of his ancestors’ bond.
During a desert cave expedition with his producer, Gilbert Griffith, Leslie seeks musical inspiration while navigating an interview arranged by Flora, an inexperienced reporter. Flora’s birthmark mirrors the talisman’s red deer motif, sparking an unspoken kinship that contrasts with Leslie’s typically reserved demeanor.
A cataclysmic earthquake strikes the cave, killing Gilbert and trapping Leslie beneath rubble as a tsunami looms. Flora’s intervention saves him, triggering the culmination of an ancient prophecy: their reunion mends the rift between their ancestors, Bogdo and Fayau, separated 10,000 years earlier. Leslie descends directly from Fayau, while Flora’s lineage traces to Bogdo via Laia, a South Seas islander from the Age of Discovery marked by a red deer tattoo.
As the talisman and birthmark converge, Leslie and Flora emerge as the final incarnations in a cyclical saga of parted souls. Their meeting resolves the unresolved yearning of Bogdo and Fayau, closing the loop begun by the Red Stag’s vow to reunite the lovers across time.
