Description
Katakura Kojūrō acts as chief strategist and loyal retainer to Date Masamune, blending tactical brilliance with steadfast devotion. His origins stem from the historical Katakura Kagetsuna, a senior Date clan figure celebrated for battlefield loyalty and wisdom. This legacy shapes his role as a stabilizing counterpart to Masamune’s missing right eye, securing him the title "The Right Eye of the Dragon."

Kojūrō’s loyalty drives decisive actions: during Masamune’s youth, he impersonates his lord in battle, shouting "I am Masamune!" to draw enemy fire and enable escape. This dedication extends to governance and warfare—he advises caution, oversees clan affairs during Masamune’s injuries, and orchestrates defenses against threats like the Toyotomi. In *The Last Party*, he commissions custom armor to shield Masamune from Ishida Mitsunari’s assaults and fights in the final clash against the resurrected Oda Nobunaga.

His combat style merges precision with lightning-based techniques, employing katana skills such as "Kasumi Dangetsu" (mist-severing moon slash) and "Ugachi Tsuki" (drilling thrust). A unique "Gokusatsu mode" amplifies his speed and offense while compromising defense, triggered by moves like "Mugetsu Gokusatsu." Beyond martial prowess, his strategic insight exposes forged letters that implicate Tokugawa Ieyasu in Sekigahara massacres.

As a mentor-protector, Kojūrō tempers Masamune’s impulsiveness with pragmatic guidance, notably urging surrender to Toyotomi Hideyoshi to safeguard clan interests—a politically astute choice despite personal reluctance. His arc peaks in self-sacrifice, accepting fatal injuries to rouse Masamune’s sense of duty.

Historical threads weave through his depiction: real-life battles at Hitodoribashi (1585) and Sekigahara (1600), plus his refusal of Hideyoshi’s land grants to uphold Date loyalty. His design integrates yakuza-inspired mannerisms, contrasting a rugged exterior with profound familial allegiance.
