Description
Kana Nakamura teaches science at Tokisadame High School with a singular obsession: capturing android student Nano Shinonome for scientific experimentation. Her repeated attempts to uncover Nano's robotic secrets consistently fail due to her own incompetence, carelessness, or misfortune. Before the series, Nakamura owned a black cat named Taisho. Her neglect caused Taisho's injuries and subsequent escape, leading to his adoption by the Shinonome household and renaming as Sakamoto—an anime-original detail absent in the manga. Nakamura encounters Sakamoto in the finale, initially failing to recognize him. She temporarily abandons her Nano pursuit to seek his return, but Sakamoto rejects her.

Nakamura exhibits stoicism blended with pronounced clumsiness and social awkwardness. Her carelessness surfaces in daily mishaps, notably when she repeatedly consumes coffee she drugged for Nano. She flusters easily, particularly when colleagues Manabu Takasaki or Izumi Sakurai call her "cute." A coffee enthusiast, she frequents Daiku Coffee shop. Her creative streak includes drawing happy faces on inventions and imagining an internal cowboy persona, Bill Watts. When excited, her speech misplaces syllable emphasis.

Her relationships revolve around her Nano fixation and evolving coworker dynamics. She initially dismisses Takasaki for disrupting her plans but later believes he harbors romantic feelings, reacting with blushed embarrassment during interactions. Manga developments suggest potential reciprocal interest. She maintains distant yet polite relations with other faculty like Sakurai. Meeting Nano's child creator Hakase, Nakamura expresses shock at her youth but receives no substantive answers due to Hakase's distractions.

Nakamura engineers devices to subdue Nano, appending "-Kun" to their names:
- **Oxide-Kun Plus**: Tranquilizer and oxidant powder for disabling robots.
- **Short Circuit-Kun**: Kokeshi-shaped stun gun created after tranquilizer failures.
- **Peace-Kun series**: Remote-controlled or autonomous robots (UFO or humanoid) for surveillance or luring Hakase, prone to malfunctioning and attacking Nakamura.
These inventions often inadvertently harm others, particularly student Tsuyoshi Nakanojou, who suffers electrocution and head shaving. Nakamura shows minimal remorse for collateral incidents.

Manga future timelines reveal Nakamura residing at Shinonome Laboratory as a freeloader, assisting Hakase. Her later inventions like the advanced "Peace-Kun #98" earn Nano's wary admiration despite explosive tendencies. Nakamura’s birthday is July 10, and she cannot swim.
