Tomohisa Kaname is the husband of Junko Kaname and father of Madoka and Tatsuya Kaname. He serves as the family's stay-at-home parent, managing household chores including cooking, laundry, cleaning, and gardening. Tomohisa cares for the children and maintains the home while Junko works, demonstrating kindness, supportiveness, and tranquility that fosters a stable environment. He attentively assists Junko when she returns tired or intoxicated. Tall with short, medium light-brown hair and dark brown eyes, Tomohisa wears rectangular glasses with taupe brown frames. His typical attire is a deep blue baggy V-neck long-sleeved shirt, khakis, and dark brown shoes. His name combines "tomo" (知, wisdom) and "hisa" (久, old story), while "Kaname" blends "kana" (鹿, deer) and "me" (目, eye). Primarily appearing within the Kaname household, Tomohisa loses all memory of Madoka following her transformation in Episode 12. He dismisses Tatsuya recognizing Homura Akemi's ribbon as belonging to an imaginary friend, gently preventing Tatsuya from touching it while remarking that taking ribbons from girls is inappropriate. In *Puella Magi Madoka Magica Portable*, Madoka references his cooking expertise, advising Sayaka Miki to learn from him. He briefly appears greeting Madoka while harvesting cherry tomatoes in their garden in *The Rebellion Story*. Series creator Gen Urobuchi designed Tomohisa to embody a nurturing paternal figure, establishing him as a "kind father" to provide Madoka with familial stability and courage. This contrasts with Junko's strong maternal presence, aiming to foster Madoka's emotional resilience and sense of security throughout her experiences.
