Description
Astarotte Ygvar, nicknamed Rotte (often mistranslated as Lotte), is the 10-year-old princess of Ygvarland in the fantastical realm of Álfheimr. As a succubus, she possesses a biological imperative requiring her to regularly consume "sáðfryma" (semen), known as "life-seed" or "Sauzfryma," upon reaching maturity. This substance is vital for sustaining her life force, magical abilities, and physical health, akin to a vampire's reliance on blood. Without it, she would become powerless and face potential death. Succubus tradition mandates she begin forming a male harem at age ten to secure a future supply.

Astarotte harbors an intense aversion to men rooted in childhood trauma. A pivotal incident involved witnessing a male enter her mother Queen Mercelída Ygvar’s bedroom while she shared the bed, causing profound fear, confusion, and lasting repulsion. Her mother's libertine behavior and extensive harem further alienated Astarotte, leading her to distance herself from the main palace. She resides separately, surrounded almost exclusively by female staff, permitting only the elderly Olav as a male exception. This hatred directly conflicts with her biological needs, endangering her future.

To circumvent the harem obligation while appearing compliant, Astarotte demanded her first harem member be a human male—a condition she believed impossible, as humans were considered extinct in Álfheimr and the interdimensional Yggdrasill tree linking to the human world was dormant. Despite this, her chief attendant Judit successfully reactivated Yggdrasill, located a human named Naoya Tōhara, and brought him to Álfheimr. Astarotte was forced to accept him as her "toy," the inaugural harem candidate. Naoya arrived with his 10-year-old daughter, Asuha.

Initially stubborn, cold, and dismissive toward Naoya and Asuha, Astarotte's personality shifted due to Naoya's consistent kindness, patience, and paternal care, alongside Asuha's energetic and playful influence. She gradually became more talkative, sociable, and willing to engage. This emotional thaw extended to her school life, where she formed friendships, and facilitated a tentative reconciliation with her mother. Over time, she developed romantic feelings for Naoya, exhibiting tsundere tendencies—veiling affection with brusqueness while growing possessive and jealous of his attention.

Astarotte’s development is complicated by her physical maturation; she is a late bloomer compared to her voluptuous mother, potentially due to a recessive gene. Her evolving relationship with Naoya deepened amid family revelations. She discovered Asuha was not merely her friend but her older half-sister, Asuhariet Ygvar—both sharing the same age due to succubus pregnancies lasting only eight months. This connection arose because Mercelída briefly fled to the human world years prior, conceiving Asuha with a young Naoya. Mercelída later entrusted Asuha to Naoya to shield her from royal succession conflicts. Astarotte reacted with fury upon learning this secret had been kept from her while others knew, initially expelling Naoya and Asuha. She forgave them within a day, acknowledging Asuha’s loyalty.

Astarotte’s father died of illness, leaving her mother and Asuha as her only known immediate family. Her story concludes differently across media: in the manga, she marries Naoya; in the anime, she recognizes and accepts her love for him without marriage. Both resolutions highlight her journey from isolation and trauma to emotional connection and acceptance of her complex familial and romantic relationships.

Visually, Astarotte is depicted as a young girl with sage-green eyes and long golden-blonde hair typically tied in pigtails secured by red ribbons. Her common attire includes a school uniform or a blue sleeveless dress featuring a white high collar, purple cuffs, knee-length stockings, and purple pumps.
