OVA
Description
Vanilla Vartla emerges as a brash, loudmouthed black marketeer operating in Uoodo City, leveraging his extensive connections to become a valuable information source. His piloting skills and familiarity with military hardware hint at prior involvement with the Gilgamesh military forces during the Hundred Years' War. After encountering Chirico Cuvie, Vanilla allies with salvager Bouleuse Gotho and becomes drawn into Chirico's conflicts, shifting from information broker to active combatant.
He demonstrates improbable piloting skills, especially with attack helicopters, executing maneuvers exceeding standard capabilities. His combat proficiency extends to ground operations, leading him to join mercenary forces during Kummen's escalating guerrilla warfare. Despite a volatile and over-eager demeanor, he consistently supports those depending on him in critical missions.
His personality blends enthusiastic, occasionally reckless tendencies with underlying loyalty. A recurring dynamic of belligerent sexual tension exists between Vanilla and Coconna, another group member, evolving into their eventual marriage. They later raise six children together, forming a token minority couple within their social context.
Decades later, during "Alone Again," Vanilla reunites with Chirico on the neutral planet Gluphae after 32 years of separation, alongside Gotho and Coconna. This first encounter since parting is brief, cut short by the dangers following Chirico, forcing another separation. Earlier, in the "Phantom Arc" OVA, Vanilla participates in a journey organized by Gotho to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their adventures with Chirico. Revisiting significant locations, the group reflects on shared experiences and becomes involved in events tied to an ancient 3000-year prophecy.
Throughout these storylines, Vanilla maintains physical characteristics including dark skin, an afro hairstyle, and frequent glove use, typically attired with smoking implements.
