OVA
Description
Coconna Vartla debuts as a young woman in the original television series, working as a driver and mechanic in Uoodo. She forges a close bond with Chirico Cuvie, Vanilla Vartla, and Bouleuse Gotho during their adventures, frequently showcasing exceptional skill piloting vehicles under combat conditions, evading enemy fire and navigating hazardous terrain. Her relationship with Vanilla involves constant bickering and romantic tension, ultimately evolving into mutual romance.
Initially harboring romantic feelings for Chirico, Coconna creates a love triangle with the artificial warrior Fyana. Over time, her affections shift towards Vanilla. After the television series, Coconna marries Vanilla, establishing a family with six children. They further expand their household through adoption, creating a large family often called "Patchwork Kids."
In the OVA *Alone Again* (*Chirico's Return*), set roughly 30 years later, Coconna lives with her husband Vanilla, their daughter Cycloh, and other family members in Gurfey on Melkia. Her children, Saltio and Stevia, are actively involved, Stevia managing cargo and Saltio in covert activities. When Chirico arrives unexpectedly in Gurfey, Coconna is among the first to reunite with him, expressing joy after decades apart. She tends to him post-battle, remarking he looks unchanged and showing him a family photograph.
During Chirico's brief stay, Coconna shows ongoing concern for his well-being and tries to shield him from Vanilla's pragmatic worries about the trouble his presence might attract. She becomes upset when Vanilla suggests Chirico's actions will bring conflict, physically reprimanding Vanilla and defending Chirico's intervention as necessary protection. Coconna seeks personal reconnection with Chirico, indicating unresolved questions about his past and Fyana's fate, though limited time prevents these discussions. After Chirico departs abruptly to protect Gurfey from military assault, Coconna expresses regret at missing the chance to ask him these questions. She later joins the search for Chirico following a major battle, discovering only a freshly dug grave marked with flowers.
