Description
Satsuki Hanabusa is one of the three male Sweets Princes at St. Marie Academy. He specializes in candy sculptures and flower-based cakes, particularly rose-themed creations, influenced by his family background. His father, a horticulturist specializing in roses, died in a car accident years earlier, leaving Hanabusa a bottle of rose water as a memento. This loss fostered a strong sense of kindness in him, especially towards his mother, who teaches Japanese flower arrangement at the academy. This kindness evolved into a flirtatious demeanor toward all females, bordering on perpetual flirtation, coupled with noticeable narcissistic tendencies. He habitually spent over an hour preparing his appearance each morning and frequently admired his reflection, though this lessened after the rose water incident.

Hanabusa dreams not only of patisserie but of collaborating with his mother as a coordinator integrating flowers into life's necessities like clothing, food, and interior design. During the second season ("Professional"), he took an indefinite leave of absence from St. Marie Academy to pursue this goal, surprising his teammates in Paris who were unaware of his plans. He later returned briefly to assist in a crucial contest.

He maintains a complex dynamic with his fellow Sweets Princes. His friendship with roommate Makoto Kashino is strained yet close, marked by opposing personalities—Hanabusa's flirtatiousness contrasts Kashino's bluntness. Conflicts arise over Hanabusa's habit of leaving rose petals uncleaned after baths, often mediated by Sennosuke Andou. With Ichigo Amano, Hanabusa displayed consistent kindness from their first meeting when he gifted her candy flowers. His flirtatious behavior included a cheek kiss, which she interpreted platonically. In the second season, he privately admitted romantic feelings for Ichigo but conceded to Kashino, stating he would only pursue her if their relationship ended.

Hanabusa overcame an obsession with using his father's rose water in his creations, resolving the challenge with Ichigo's help. This reconnected him with his genuine love for flowers and sweets. His name reflects floral connections: "Hanabusa" translates to "bunch of flowers," while "Satsuki" references the Satsuki azalea, despite his October birth. He stands 167 cm tall in the first season, growing to 174 cm in the second. His blood type is AB. His Sweets Spirit, Café, shares his gentlemanly persona and assists with coffee-based creations.
