Description
Mirza Kooches, also known as Milza Kuches or Kuces, rules as prince of Dartania, a small continent across the sea from Altirk and adjacent to Haman. He traveled secretly for five years prior to the series' events, initially presenting himself as a friend to Villar Constance. His allegiance, however, proves fluid, shifting based on his assessment of others' strength and ambition. His rule began with patricide; he killed his own father, King Sayid Kuches, deeming him too weak to lead Dartania.

Tall with long black hair and a matching beard, Mirza typically wears Middle Eastern-inspired attire, including a dark robe often covering his head. He carries a short sword and is nicknamed "The Black Swordsman" for his combat prowess. His fighting style emphasizes overwhelming brutality, frequently seeing him leap into naval battles to annihilate enemy crews single-handedly.

His personality centers on a fanatical belief that only the strong deserve to survive, while the weak must perish. He views oppression and bloodshed as necessary tools to unify the continents, dismissing diplomacy and defensive strategies as weaknesses. This philosophy defines his iron-fisted rule over Dartania; he shows no concern for civilian lives if their sacrifice advances his ambitions. Suicidally self-reliant, he consistently rejects tactical advice from subordinates, especially his loyal tactician Terius. This trait contributes directly to strategic failures, including his army's disintegration during key battles.

Initially aligned with the Fantasia Union, he defected to the Factory Alliance after Villar Constance refused leadership of the Union. His allegiance shifted again to Marrine Kreische, leader of the Alliance, when she agreed to sleep with him to prove her dedication to continental unity—a transaction he interpreted as validation of her strength.

His military campaigns starkly contrast protagonists like Theo Cornaro. While Theo prioritizes minimizing casualties and convincing enemies to surrender peacefully, Mirza slaughters opponents even after surrender becomes logical, forcibly seizing their crests. His disdain for Theo's defensive tactics culminated in a decisive duel during the Battle of Castle Unicorn. Exhausted by Theo's forces—who exploited Mirza's impatience by channeling his cavalry into fatal bottlenecks and coordinated magical assaults—Mirza refused to yield. Theo disarmed him and offered the standard ultimatum for defeated lords: surrender his crest or die. True to his ideology, Mirza chose death over relinquishing power, accepting Theo's killing blow without begging for mercy.

His death released chaotic energy associated with his crest, which Theo absorbed only after seeking consent from affected parties. Mirza's final moments included an attempt to stand defiantly as Theo's sword struck his neck. He has an unnamed adopted daughter.
