Description
Ibis Douglas is a fictional character from the Super Robot Wars series, featuring prominently in the Alpha and Original Generation timelines. Her background unfolds across various games and media. Born in America, she dreamed of space travel. She became a test pilot for Project Terrestrial Dream (Project TD), a Divine Crusaders space exploration project that shifted to military use due to budget constraints. Project head Filio Presty recognized her latent piloting talent despite her initial clumsiness and frequent crashes in simulations, which earned her the nickname "Shooting Star." This period established her rivalry with Sleigh Presty, Filio's sister and the project's ace pilot, who criticized Ibis's skills. Ibis harbored an unspoken infatuation for Filio. Her core motivation remained her childhood dream of reaching the stars, contrasting with Sleigh's combat focus.

A pivotal incident defines her trauma. In the Alpha universe, Ibis lost control of the Altairion during a high-speed GRaMXs maneuver test on the Moon, crashing into Filio's observation area and killing him. This caused her to repress her memories and enter a prolonged Heroic BSoD state. Project TD disbanded, and Sleigh vanished with the Vegalion prototype. Ibis and co-pilot Tsugumi Takakura moved to Von Braun City on the Moon, running a space transport service. Years later, during a delivery, they encountered Cosmo Babylonia forces and joined the Crossbone Vanguard after aiding Bera Ronah, leading to her involvement with the Alpha Numbers. She rescued and bonded with a mysterious girl named Irui, becoming her foster mother. Sleigh reappeared seeking revenge, forcing Ibis to confront her past. After defeating Sleigh in a duel, they reconciled and combined their machines into the Hyperion to fight Neo Zeon. Ibis later believed Irui died during the Nashim Ganeden's destruction, but her resolve to honor Filio and protect others endured.

The Original Generation timeline alters key events. New York City (her implied birthplace) was destroyed by a meteor pre-series. During a Neo Divine Crusaders attack, Filio ordered Ibis and Sleigh to flee with Calion prototypes. Regrouping at Tesla Leicht Institute, they faced Inspectors, leading to a dogfight where Sleigh shot down Ibis. Ibis survived and was entrusted with the Astelion prototype by Filio. She aided the Earth Federation Army against threats like the Inspectors, Shadow-Mirror, and Einst. Her unit upgraded to the Astelion AX (Advanced X) in Original Generation Gaiden. In The Moon Dwellers, piloting the Altairion, she faced Sleigh again, who had defected to Gaia Sabers with the Vegalion. They ultimately reconciled and combined their units into the Hyperion. Unlike Alpha, she actively gave Irui a pendant as a keepsake.

Personality-wise, Ibis is introverted and initially struggles with low self-confidence, often pushing people away to avoid discussing her past. She carries guilt and an inferiority complex over her piloting failures. Despite this, she exhibits kindness, a soft spot for children, and a love for cheesecake. Her determination is marked by the catchphrase "Yatte miseru!" ("I'll show you I can do it!"). Over time, she develops resilience, learning to trust allies and support them in battle, transitioning from a hesitant pilot to a decisive Ace capable of mastering advanced maneuvers and piloting machines like the Hyperion. Physical traits include red hair, purple eyes, and a slender build, with comical fan depictions often exaggerating her chest size despite canonical references to a B-cup.

Her thematic parallels include similarities to Amuro Ray (Mobile Suit Gundam) due to her predominantly white machines and Noriko Takaya (GunBuster) for her underdog-to-ace progression. She appears in games like Super Robot Wars Alpha 2 (as a protagonist), Alpha 3 (Selena Recital's route), Original Generation 2, Original Generations, Gaiden, and The Moon Dwellers. In anime, she has a brief cameo in Super Robot Wars Original Generation: Divine Wars as a Divine Crusaders test pilot for the Lion Armored Module and features in Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector.
