Description
Meowth is a Pokémon and a member of Team Rocket, operating alongside the human duo Jessie and James. It stands apart from others of its species due to its self-taught ability to speak and understand human language, a skill it developed during a difficult childhood spent alone on the streets of Tinseltown after being abandoned as a kitten.

Its motivation for learning to walk upright and speak came from a desire to impress a female Meowth named Meowzie. After achieving this feat, Meowzie rejected it, calling it a freak. This heartbreak led Meowth to join Team Rocket, an organization whose name came from the first human word it ever learned to comprehend.

Within the team, Meowth acts as the primary strategist and mechanic, devising plans to steal valuable Pokémon and building the various machines used in their schemes. A recurring goal is the capture of a Pikachu belonging to the trainer Ash. Although Meowth often considers itself the group's leader, Jessie frequently overrules its authority, yet a strong sense of loyalty keeps the trio united.

Meowth's personality is cunning, prideful, and greedy, though it also shows a capacity for deeper reflection and occasional compassion. It holds a strong dislike for its evolved form, Persian, largely due to Giovanni's preference for a Persian as his personal pet—a perceived replacement that fuels Meowth's jealousy and desire to regain its status as "top cat."

Its combat abilities are limited; the effort spent learning human speech and bipedal movement hindered its capacity to use certain moves, such as Pay Day. Still, it can become formidable when highly motivated or angered. It also displays skill in Pokémon performances, where it assists Jessie in contests.

Meowth has a history of unsuccessful romantic pursuits toward other Pokémon, including May's Skitty and a Glameow. It also maintains a fierce rivalry with an Alolan Meowth that once worked temporarily with Team Rocket.

During the team's time in the Unova region, their dynamic shifted toward a more serious, mission-focused approach, prioritizing assignments from Giovanni over their earlier comedic endeavors. Their methods evolved, using jetpacks for retreats instead of being blasted away. As part of a specific tactic in Unova, Meowth feigned expulsion from Team Rocket, pretending to have been fired by Giovanni to infiltrate Ash's group and gain trust. This ruse was part of a larger scheme with Jessie, James, and Dr. Zager to capture multiple Pokémon from a Pokémon Center, though the plan ultimately failed.

Despite its role as an antagonist, Meowth has often helped Ash and his friends by translating Pokémon speech. It has shown empathy toward abandoned or mistreated Pokémon, reflecting on its own past. Meowth remains a wild Pokémon and refuses to be captured in a Poké Ball, though it exhibits a partiality for Luxury Balls. Like others of its kind, it is attracted to shiny objects and coins.
