Description
Sawa Yukimura, originally Sawa Karasumori, was born into Aomori's Karasumori clan, whose rare blue blood granted supernatural abilities. Her family and clan were massacred by the insurgent Kuchinawa group, specifically targeted for their blood's power to transform humans into bestial "Changelings." Orphaned and driven by vengeance against the perpetrator she believed responsible, Janome, she was discovered by Jin Kuzuhara. He recruited and trained her as an executioner for the Tokugawa shogunate's secret police, "Nue," in exchange for information on her family's killer.

Publicly, she operated "Morning Dew Used Bookstore" in Tokyo, maintaining an isolated, unassuming life. Privately, she served as a lethal Nue operative, using combat skills and blue-blood-derived powers to eliminate targets, including Changelings and Kuchinawa members, with a blade concealed in her parasol. Her blue blood enabled a transformative state triggered by the phrase "You, who would violate the foundation of what makes a man, dwell now in the blue that surges within." This transformation heightened her physical capabilities, turned her eyes and lips vivid blue, freed her tied-up hair, and shifted her kimono to gray with a light blue undershirt. Like her clan, she possessed a regenerative healing factor, ineffective against certain fatal injuries like the later wound to her back.

Initially, Sawa presented as cold, detached, and ruthlessly focused on revenge, avoiding personal connections. She adhered strictly to justice and Nue's directives, willing to sacrifice herself or others for her goals. Her relationship with Asahi Nakamura, a young girl whose parents Sawa killed during a Nue mission, significantly evolved her character. Taking Asahi in as her adoptive sister created a complex dynamic of resentment and dependence. This bond gradually revealed Sawa's latent compassion and guilt, causing her to question her path of vengeance and violence. She eventually renounced killing and attempted suicide to escape her cycle of bloodshed.

A pivotal revelation shattered her world: Jin Kuzuhara, not Janome, was the true murderer of her family. This betrayal destroyed her trust in Nue and redirected her hatred toward Jin. Her priorities shifted to protecting Asahi. She faked her death to escape Tokyo, living peacefully with Asahi in the mountains briefly. However, the escalating conflict between Nue and Kuchinawa drew her back. In the final confrontation, contributing to the Tokugawa regime's collapse, Sawa achieved her revenge by killing Janome and confronting Jin. Returning to the bookstore, she sustained a stab wound to the back from Rinko, another Nue executioner. Her regenerative abilities failed to heal this injury, leading to her death in Asahi's arms. An epilogue ten years later shows Asahi, now 17, adopting Sawa's role and abilities, continuing her legacy alongside Elena's daughter, Satsuki.

Her name holds symbolic weight: "Sawa" combines "blossom" (咲) and "feather" (羽), while "Yukimura" means "snow village" (雪村). Her original surname, "Karasumori," translates to "crow forest" (烏森), reflecting her association with a white crow named Nana and her clan's avian motifs.
