TV-Series
Description
Kanako Kurusu, a classmate and friend to Kirino Kousaka and Ayase Aragaki, begins the series at 14 before turning 15. She possesses brown eyes and a petite frame, standing 148 cm tall and weighing 39 kg, with measurements of 70-51-77 cm. Her naturally black hair is dyed red and styled in twin tails secured by yellow ribbons.

Exhibiting a tsundere personality, Kanako masks kindness and honesty behind outward arrogance and selfishness. She craves praise but reacts with fiery anger to criticism or being ignored. Driven to become an idol, she demonstrates exceptional singing and dancing talents, memorizing songs after one hearing and practicing frequently at karaoke. Despite this ambition, she openly disdains otaku culture as childish and "disgusting," though she tolerates otaku acquaintances like Kyosuke Kousaka and Kirino after forming bonds. Professionally, she prioritizes performance quality over personal biases.

Her background includes part-time fashion modeling alongside Ayase. Family conflicts led her to run away and live with her older sister, Kanata Kurusu. Later, seeking reconciliation—especially after her father’s hospitalization—she learns cooking under Manami Tamura, whom she respectfully calls "shishō."

Kanako’s idol career launches unexpectedly when Ayase tricks her into cosplaying as "Meruru" from Kirino’s favorite anime for a contest. Despite initial disgust, her uncanny resemblance to the character and vocal talent secure victory, earning her a contract as Meruru’s official cosplayer. This role fuels her idol pursuits but leaves her conflicted over its otaku ties.

She develops feelings for Kyosuke after he poses as her manager, considering him her "first fan." She brings him her cooking experiments; though inedible, she’s impressed when he finishes them. Jealous of other girls close to Kyosuke—particularly arguing with Kuroneko—she publicly confesses to him during a performance but is rejected in favor of Kirino. Heartbroken, she channels this into determination, vowing idol success to make him regret his choice.

In visual novel adaptations, she marries Kyosuke, and they have a daughter, Kanami Kousaka. A dedicated "Kanako if" route explores this outcome. Her friendships include accepting Kirino’s otaku hobbies (despite deeming them "gross") and a dynamic with Ayase blending camaraderie with physical admonishments for Kanako’s bluntness. She views Manami as both mentor and romantic rival.

Following rejection, Kanako evolves from selfishness to resilient focus on her career and family reconciliation, retaining her core ambition and candor.
