TV-Series
Description
Zakuro, the half-demon main protagonist of her series, was abandoned as a child by her mother Tsukuhane and raised by her mother's familiar, Kushimatsu. The reasons for her abandonment remained unknown to her until much later.
She possesses long grayish-purple hair typically tied in twin tails with ribbon bows, violet eyes, and wears a standard pink yukata. When entering a trance-like divine state, blue morpho butterfly wings surround her body, and her face gains markings including four diamonds on her forehead and lines on her lower face.
Impulsive and assertive by nature, Zakuro demonstrates deep commitment to protecting her friends while often acting bratty, particularly toward Westernized styles—she dislikes milk but enjoys cookies. She frequently denies having romantic feelings for Kei Agemaki, though she blushes in his presence and deflects with attitude.
A skilled fighter who often leads battles, Zakuro wields a cherry blossom branch that transforms into a dagger. Her combat abilities enhance when supported by the singing of Susukihotaru, Bonbori, and Hozuki. Due to her lineage, she possesses the ability to transform into a divine being, though she lacks control over this power.
Her relationships are complex. She develops romantic feelings for Kei Agemaki; though their relationship begins with tension due to his fearful demeanor, they eventually admit their feelings and share a kiss. Zakuro shares a close, long-standing friendship with Susukihotaru. Her interactions with Riken Yoshinokazura are limited, though he once took blame for her actions, causing her guilt. She cares for the twins Bonbori and Hozuki, saving them from dangerous situations. Kushimatsu, her caretaker, often excludes her from missions, creating tension between them.
Zakuro initially had a crush on Takatoshi Hanadate, later revealed to be her half-brother Omodaka. He sought her for her divine power, resulting in their parents' deaths. Despite this, Zakuro does not hate him and eventually accepts him as her brother. She holds hatred for Rangui, who harmed her loved ones and knew secrets about her mother. Zakuro kills Rangui in the anime, while Omodaka causes her demise in the manga. Her relationship with Byakuroku begins negatively but evolves into assistance, with Zakuro sharing her power to help.
Zakuro's background reveals she is the child of an affair between her mother and a human man, considered a heroic bastard. Her mother Tsukuhane was subjected to an arranged marriage by the Oracle chief to obtain her spiritual power. Zakuro was captured by Omodaka, who desired both her power and herself, leading to significant conflict. She was ultimately rescued and dealt the killing blow to the final boss. Despite Omodaka's actions, she wished for him to live and accepted him as family.
Her name means "Pomegranate" in Japanese, and she was born on April 5th.
