Description
Chouza Akimichi, fifteenth head of the Akimichi clan and a Konohagakure jōnin, served in the previous generation's Ino-Shika-Chō trio with Shikaku Nara and Inoichi Yamanaka. As clan leader, he governs their specialized techniques converting calories into chakra for size manipulation. His background includes leading a genin team during the Third Shinobi World War, mentoring Might Guy and Genma Shiranui. During that conflict, he undertook a diplomatic mission seeking peace between Konoha and Iwagakure, strategically positioning talks near Sunagakure's border to leverage the Fourth Kazekage's oversight if violence erupted. As a father, he supported his son Choji through childhood bullying over weight, assuring him genuine friends would value his kindness. Before Choji became a genin, Chouza took him to the tri-clan memorial of the Akimichi, Nara, and Yamanaka, emphasizing their ancestral bond and Choji's future role as clan head.
Chouza bears the Akimichi's characteristic purple cheek markings. His attire features a samurai-style black suit with armor displaying the kanji for "food" (食), a rope belt, hand guards, and a hachimaki headband. He once wore silver hoop earrings, passing them to Choji until their return after Choji's chūnin promotion. Additional markings appear under his eyes when he uses the Multi-Size Technique. His abilities center on the Akimichi clan's secret techniques: Multi-Size Technique for full-body expansion, Partial Multi-Size Technique for enlarging specific body parts, and Super Multi-Size Technique to reach colossal dimensions. He wields an extendable bō staff proficiently, synchronizing its growth with his size manipulation in combat. Notable feats include halting Kinkaku's tail strike during the Fourth Shinobi World War and blocking the advance of the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path to create openings for allies.
During Pain's Assault on Konoha, Chouza led a scouting team including Choji. They intervened in Kakashi Hatake's battle against the Deva and Asura Paths, crushing the Asura Path with a coordinated attack. Though initially presumed dead after the Deva Path's counterattack, Katsuyu detected his survival, enabling Tsunade to direct Choji in transporting him to safety. Assigned to the First Division in the Fourth Shinobi World War, he fought reincarnated shinobi including Asuma Sarutobi and Dan Katō, shielding allies from Asuma's Fire Release: Ash Pile Burning. He admonished Choji to embrace his responsibilities as future clan head, catalyzing Choji's resolve to defeat Asuma. Later, he conversed with Dan about Madara Uchiha's reincarnation and Tsunade's leadership before Dan's spirit departed following the Impure World Reincarnation's release.
In *Naruto Shippūden the Movie: The Lost Tower*, Chouza was chosen by the Third Hokage for a mission to thwart Anrokuzan in Rōran. He joined Minato Namikaze's team with Shibi Aburame and Kakashi Hatake. Encountering a time-displaced Naruto Uzumaki, Chouza deduced Minato's future role as Fourth Hokage based on Naruto's temporal origin. During the mission, he battled Anrokuzan's puppet forces and helped protect Queen Sāra. When Anrokuzan merged with Rōran's towers for regenerative power, Chouza and Shibi engaged him but struggled against his Ryūmyaku-powered restoration. Minato coordinated with Naruto to defeat Anrokuzan, and Chouza witnessed Minato sealing the Ryūmyaku chakra flow.
Years later, during Konoha's Parent and Child Day, Chouza petitioned the Seventh Hokage to establish a "Grandparent and Grandchild Day" to spend time with his granddaughter Chōchō, a request supported by Hiashi Hyūga.
