Description
Mey-Rin serves as a maid in the Phantomhive household. Her background traces to Chinese origins, with her parents dying during an epidemic after immigrating to England, leaving her to survive on the streets. There, she formed connections with two boys, Jan and Hao, and used her extraordinary vision to steal, shooting earrings off wealthy women. A pivotal incident occurred in 1877 outside the Royal Opera House, where a theft went wrong, resulting in Jan and Hao being killed by criminals associated with the Qīng Bāng organization. Subsequently, Mey-Rin was forcibly recruited into Qīng Bāng and trained as an assassin under the codename "Owl".

In 1887, she received an assignment to assassinate Ciel Phantomhive. Her attempt failed, and she was apprehended by Sebastian Michaelis. Offered a position as a maid instead of execution, she initially resisted but accepted after experiencing kindness from Ciel, including sharing a meal and receiving a pair of specially designed glasses to correct her severe nearsightedness. These glasses became a cherished possession, symbolizing her acceptance and new life.

Physically, Mey-Rin has maroon-red hair typically tied in high pigtails and hazel eyes. Her most distinctive feature is her extraordinary long-distance vision, intentionally impaired by her round glasses for close-range tasks. Without them, she accurately sees and shoots targets over vast distances. Her standard attire is a functional maid uniform designed by Nina Hopkins, featuring a bulletproof corset, boots, and hidden pouches for ammunition storage.

As a maid, Mey-Rin displays chronic clumsiness during routine chores, frequently tripping or breaking objects. This stems partly from her visual impairment but is also attributed to nervousness, particularly around Sebastian Michaelis, for whom she harbors notable admiration, often worsening her accidents. Despite her domestic struggles, she transforms into a highly capable and focused sniper. Removing her glasses allows her to utilize her natural visual acuity for precise long-range shooting without a scope. She maintains multiple loaded rifles on the manor's rooftop to minimize reloading delays and demonstrates proficiency with various firearms.

Her personality combines unwavering loyalty to Ciel Phantomhive with a determination to prove her worth. She exhibits superstitions and an affinity for scary stories. Her history of trauma, including the loss of her friends and forced involvement in assassination work, contrasts with her current contentment in wearing feminine clothing like skirts—a freedom denied when she disguised herself as a boy earlier in life. She collaborates closely with fellow servants Baldroy and Finnian in defending Phantomhive Manor, participating in coordinated efforts to eliminate intruders. Her development shows a gradual embrace of her dual identity: a dedicated, albeit accident-prone, maid and a vigilant protector of the Phantomhive family.
