Description
Born in New Domino City's affluent Tops area to lead Ener-D project developers, Yusei Fudo became orphaned following the Zero Reverse catastrophe, an event he privately blamed himself for despite others absolving him. Raised in the impoverished Satellite sector, he forged unbreakable bonds with friends Jack Atlas, Crow Hogan, and Kalin Kessler. Together, they formed the Enforcers, protecting Satellite residents from duel gangs. A falling out with Kalin and Jack's betrayal—stealing Yusei's Duel Runner and "Stardust Dragon" card—led to Yusei's arrest after pursuing Jack into New Domino City. During incarceration, he received the Signer's mark, a dragon-tail symbol burned onto his right forearm, signifying his chosen status by the Crimson Dragon.

Escaping the Facility with inmates Bolt Tanner and Tenzen Yanagi, Yusei reclaimed his Duel Runner and Deck. He later united New Domino City and Satellite by defeating Rex Goodwin and ending the Dark Signer conflict, an act that replaced his dragon-tail mark with the dragon-head Signer mark, symbolizing his emergence as a leader. Throughout these events, Yusei demonstrated exceptional engineering prowess, constructing multiple Duel Runners from scrap and reverse-engineering technologies like Leo's Duel Board. His Signer abilities expanded to include supernatural protections, resisting soul absorption and perceiving duel spirit entities.

Before the Crash Town arc, in *Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Beyond Time*, Yusei confronted the time-traveling antagonist Paradox, who stole "Stardust Dragon" to erase Duel Monsters from history. After Paradox's attack crumbled New Domino City, the Crimson Dragon empowered Yusei's Duel Runner for time travel. Arriving first in Jaden Yuki's timeline, he intercepted Paradox's assault and allied with Jaden. They then journeyed to Yugi Muto's era, witnessing Paradox murder Maximillion Pegasus and Solomon Muto. The Crimson Dragon rewound time, enabling Yusei, Jaden, and Yugi to collaborate in a three-on-one duel against Paradox. Yusei coordinated team strategy, emphasizing unity despite unfamiliar tactics, activating cards like "Reincarnation of Hope" to facilitate combos and contribute to Paradox's defeat, restoring the altered timelines.

Yusei's personality embodies steadfast loyalty, selflessness, and calm analysis. He values friendship above all, believing isolation prevents true freedom, and consistently defends others from injustice. Though burdened by guilt over Zero Reverse, he remains committed to preventing similar tragedies, vowing to protect New Domino City even at personal cost. He rejects fatalism, asserting that futures are forged by present actions—a stance opposing antagonists like Paradox and Z-one. Yusei exhibits annoyance toward those disrespecting duel cards, considering them unworthy of the title Duelist unless they reform. His combat style involves visualizing card flowcharts mid-duel to strategize moves ahead, reflecting his technical mindset.

His abilities extend beyond dueling; he is proficient in hand-to-hand combat, computer programming, and physics, later overseeing Ener-D's completion. As a Signer, he harnessed the Crimson Dragon's power for time travel and Synchro Summoning advancements, including Accel Synchro (achieved via "Clear Mind") and Limit Over Accel Synchro. These techniques summoned monsters like "Shooting Star Dragon" and "Shooting Quasar Dragon," utilizing Momentum energy controlled through sheer willpower. His Signer mark also allowed him to locate fellow Signers and activate Ener-D reactors when citywide systems failed.
