Description
Cal-141 served as a female SPARTAN-II commando within the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command. Born around 2511, Dr. Catherine Halsey conscripted her into the SPARTAN-II program at age six in 2517. Following abduction, she trained on Reach under Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez and the AI Déjà alongside 74 other recruits.

Physically, Cal-141 possessed distinctive white hair and pale yellow eyes. She stood approximately 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighed roughly 1,000 pounds when equipped with her standard-issue MJOLNIR Mark IV powered assault armor. Her augmentations granted exceptional physical capabilities, including the ability to halt a swing from a Jiralhanae Chieftain's gravity hammer with one hand—a feat noted as extraordinary even among SPARTAN-IIs.

Her final mission occurred around 2544 on the Covenant-controlled planet Heian. Designated Operation: GREY VEIL or THUNDER-ROD across sources, the objective was to assassinate a minor Prophet overseeing Covenant military operations and gather intelligence on suspected Forerunner or ancient human ruins. Cal commanded a four-member ODST team: Dutch, O'Brien, Cortez, and Checkman. During orbital insertion via SOEIV pods, Checkman died in the upper atmosphere. After landing, Cal rescued O'Brien from a swamp, though he responded with hostility.

During the mission, Cal engaged a Jiralhanae Chieftain in close combat to protect O'Brien. She disabled the Chieftain by shattering its helmet, crushing one eye, and kicking it over a waterfall after a prolonged confrontation. Later, while positioned to snipe the Prophet, the same Chieftain ambushed the team. Cal pushed O'Brien to safety but sustained a direct gravity hammer blow to her head and shoulder. The impact critically compromised her armor and caused fatal injuries.

With her vision failing and right arm incapacitated, Cal ordered O'Brien to take the sniper shot, resulting in the Prophet's successful assassination. In her final moments, she entrusted Cortez with an optical data chip from her helmet containing intelligence on Heian's ruins, instructing its delivery to Dr. Halsey. She died shortly thereafter while holding Cortez's hands.

Cal's death significantly altered her ODST team's perception of SPARTANs. Previously holding typical ODST prejudice viewing Spartans as "freaks," Dutch and Cortez defended her legacy against mockery aboard their ship after witnessing her repeated sacrifices, particularly saving O'Brien multiple times. O'Brien reflected on his survival owing to her actions. Per standard ONI protocol, Cal was listed as Missing in Action to maintain the myth of Spartan invincibility. Her body was likely buried on Heian due to the impracticality of transporting her armored remains from hostile territory.

Personality-wise, Cal-141 exhibited the reserved professionalism typical of SPARTAN-IIs, speaking minimally throughout the mission. Despite O'Brien's persistent animosity, she prioritized team protection without retaliation, an approach some sources interpreted as maternal. Her actions during the mission included using a combat knife against Unggoy and employing tactical stealth maneuvers through Covenant-occupied areas.
