Description
Kagetsuna Katatsuna appears in the comedic historical anime "Tono to Issho", directly based on the historical samurai Katakura Kagetsuna, a senior retainer of the Date clan who served Date Masamune. Historical records depict him as a trusted strategist and military advisor crucial to the clan's survival, famed for saving Masamune during his first battle by shouting "I am Masamune!" to distract enemies. He participated in major Date campaigns including the Battle of Hitotoribashi, Siege of Odawara, Kunohe Rebellion, and Sekigahara Campaign. Following Sekigahara, Masamune granted him Shiroishi Castle and a 13,000 koku stipend, an exemption from the Tokugawa Shogunate's "one castle per territory" rule, establishing the Katakura clan's long control of Shiroishi. Known as "Ogre Kojūrō" and regarded as one of the "Three Great Men of the Date Clan" alongside Oniniwa Tsunamoto and Date Shigezane, he was also noted for his flute skill. Illness prevented his participation in the 1614 Osaka Winter Campaign, though he joined the Summer Campaign in 1615; he died the following year. Within the anime series, Kagetsuna Katakura features as a character in both television seasons and the original video animation, though specific details regarding his portrayal, actions, dialogue, character development, or narrative arcs remain undocumented.
