Batai, also called Tanpopo, is a Shoku faction general. She is Bachou's cousin; they previously co-commanded the Ryoushū cavalry against Sousou's invasion. After Sousou's victory and Batou's suicide, Batai joined Shoku with Bachou. Unlike her cousin, she holds no grudge against Sousou, especially after learning Sousou honored Batou with Ryoushū burial customs.

Her personality is notably mischievous and playful. She delights in pranking Bachou, often orchestrating embarrassing situations involving men to exploit Bachou's discomfort—for example, deliberately leading Bachou to encounter Kazuto while he bathed. Batai frequently disregards direct orders, sneaking away on extended journeys despite instructions to remain.

Romantically, Batai exhibits an assertive and aggressive approach towards Kazuto. She has lured him under false pretenses, like fabricating Bachou's kidnapping, to isolate him and initiated physical encounters without his explicit consent. In later stories like *Shin Koihime † Eiyuutan*, her sexual forwardness intensifies; she attempts to exclude rivals and orchestrates group encounters involving the Ba siblings and Kazuto.

Batai shares a close bond with the similarly energetic and playful Batetsu. Her initial hostility towards Gien references the *Romance of the Three Kingdoms*, where Ma Dai executes Wei Yan for treason. Her attire sets her apart among the Ba family, as she exclusively wears shorts instead of a skirt. The name "Tanpopo" means "dandelion."

Within Shoku's military, Batai participates in training with Bachou and Ryuubi. Her impulsive nature surfaces in moments like mistakenly attributing Ryuubi's stomach pain to pregnancy and speculating Bachou might be the father, showcasing her tendency for jumping to humorous conclusions.
