Description
Shouko Sano shares both Makoto Kobayashi's classroom and art club membership. She displays evident social anxiety and nervousness, habitually repeating phrases and exhibiting physical distress signals like heavy breathing after social exchanges. Her persistent focus on Makoto manifests through repeated inquiries about his artwork and painting progress, which he finds intrusive and meets with annoyance.

Romantic feelings toward Makoto make every interaction emotionally taxing for her. While others accept alterations in Makoto's personality following his reincarnation, Shouko voices suspicion. She questions whether he experienced hypnosis or external manipulation, openly preferring his previous demeanor. These observations establish her as the narrative's sole witness to his transformation, motivated by her connection to his original identity.

Her interactions underscore her outsider status within the class dynamic; though not overtly bullied, she remains socially isolated. Attempts to connect with Makoto—such as visiting him after a mugging—result in rejection that heightens her emotional strain. Despite these setbacks, her unwavering attention to Makoto's artistic pursuits reflects her bond with his pre-suicide self.
