Description
Hiroka Kuwabara attends school alongside Makoto Kobayashi. Though not an art club member, she visits frequently, drawn by the artworks and her friendship with Mao, a club participant. Hiroka interacts with Makoto without prejudice and openly admires his artistic talent, despite his unreciprocated romantic feelings toward her.

Persistent rumors circulate about Hiroka engaging in a transactional relationship with a significantly older man, meeting him regularly at love hotels. These rumors hold truth; her involvement is financially motivated, enabling expensive personal purchases. She expresses no moral conflict about the arrangement and derives some enjoyment from it. Hiroka clarifies this is a deliberate choice, valuing the financial independence and material benefits it provides.

Her personality reveals contradictions. While generally self-assured and pragmatic about her decisions, she experiences intense emotional fluctuations. Some days compel her toward destructive behavior, while others prompt thoughts of withdrawing entirely, like joining a convent. She acknowledges these shifts as part of her internal complexity.

Hiroka's dynamic with Makoto shifts when he discovers her relationship and urges her to reconsider. She firmly rebuffs his concerns, explaining her pragmatic reasons and explicitly rejecting any romantic association. Later, during vulnerability, she confides in him about her emotional turbulence. This leads Makoto to recognize her autonomy and accept her decisions without judgment, forging a mutual yet complicated understanding.

Within the narrative, Hiroka challenges simplistic moral judgments. She operates without external punishment or moralizing consequences, embodying the story's thematic exploration of human complexity and the coexistence of light and dark traits.
