Description
Grings Kodai serves as president of the Kodai Network Group, a wealthy businessman leading a Nimbasa City-based media conglomerate. Twenty years before the main events, Kodai journeyed to Crown City, drawn by its legends. He discovered Celebi's Time Ripple and forcibly absorbed its energy using a robotic arm extension, gaining future sight. This act triggered a catastrophic release of "negative time" energy that annihilated Crown City's plant life, requiring twenty years for the ecosystem to recover. Kodai felt no remorse, instead leveraging his future vision to build a vast corporate empire and manipulate mainstream media.

Kodai exhibits extreme ruthlessness, sadism, and sociopathic tendencies. He shows no compassion for living beings, prioritizing solely the preservation and enhancement of his powers and wealth. His actions include kidnapping Zoroark and her adopted child Zorua from Unova, confining them in an electrified cage aboard his airship, and psychologically manipulating Zoroark by threatening Zorua. He forces Zoroark to create city-wide illusions of Raikou, Entei, and Suicune rampaging through Crown City. Simultaneously, he directs assistant Rowena to edit footage of these illusions, fabricating evidence to frame Zoroark as the chaos's instigator. This manufactured crisis facilitates his plan to evacuate the city and freely locate the reappearing Time Ripple to replenish his fading future vision.

His methodology relies on advanced technology and psychological manipulation. Key equipment includes an illusion canceler to counteract Zoroark, an illusion generator projecting false images of Zorua for blackmail, a multi-purpose vehicle, and a hoverboard with integrated mapping systems. His extendable robotic arm, adapted from the device used twenty years prior, administers painful electric shocks. During the climax in Crown City's stadium, he uses this arm to torture Zorua and later electrocute Zoroark near fatally. He openly admits to his past destruction of the city and his media manipulations, confident in victory.

Kodai's downfall stems from over-reliance on future visions and unchecked arrogance. When Zorua bites his wrist, it damages his illusion canceler, leaving him vulnerable. Unbeknownst to him, his subsequent apparent triumph—absorbing the Time Ripple and confessing his crimes—is an elaborate illusion crafted by Zoroark. The illusion dissipates, revealing his true circumstances with his confession recorded by Karl and Rowena. The real legendary beasts block his access to the Time Ripple, forcing him to flee. Zoroark creates a final illusion of his airship, causing him to fall from the stadium balcony and lose consciousness. Upon awakening, he finds his confession broadcast throughout Crown City, leading to his arrest by Officer Jenny alongside bodyguard Goone.

In the manga adaptation, Zoroark pursues Kodai through the stadium using illusionary vines. He trips at a higher floor and falls to his death, differing from the film's arrest.

Kodai utilizes two Pokémon: Shuppet, employed for its Foresight ability to locate the Time Ripple and later to attack Zoroark with Shadow Ball, and Misdreavus, which evolves into Mismagius and uses Psychic to immobilize opponents. He also temporarily controls multiple Ninjask to capture Zorua. Beyond these, he projects holographic illusions of the legendary beasts and Zorua as part of his schemes.
