Description
Prof. Sabaku, originally researcher Tsukikage Hideaki, leads the Desert Apostles, an organization dedicated to destroying the Tree of Hearts to transform the world into a desert. He perpetually conceals his identity behind a dark teal and grey mask, initially appearing as a ruthless and enigmatic figure commanding subordinates like Kumojaki, Sasorina, and Cobraja to eliminate the Pretty Cure warriors. His primary focus is completing his mission for the Desert Apostles, often expressing impatience with failures and escalating threats by deploying his strongest agent, Dark Pretty Cure.

His true history reveals he was studying the Tree of Hearts in France when he encountered two followers of Dune, the Desert Apostles' true leader. They gifted him a mask that brainwashed him, placing him under Dune's control and erasing his past. Renamed Sabaku (from the Japanese word for "desert"), he became the acting leader and created Dark Pretty Cure using a piece of his biological daughter Yuri's bone, making Dark Cure a non-biological sibling to Yuri.

Sabaku's personality shifts dramatically when his mask is damaged in battle. After lunging to protect Dark Cure from Cure Moonlight's attack, his mask falls off, revealing his face to Yuri Tsukikage (Cure Moonlight) as her long-lost father. This exposes hidden paternal devotion: despite his villainy, he sacrifices himself to shield Yuri and Cure Blossom from Dune's energy blast, bidding farewell to Yuri and urging her to care for her mother before disintegrating. His remains, reduced to tattered clothing, are later buried at his former home in Yamanashi.

His relationships illustrate complexity. He shares a close, protective bond with Dark Cure, whom he treats as a daughter and prioritizes over other subordinates, contrasting with his transactional dynamic with the Desert Apostles generals. His connection to Yuri remains adversarial until his unmasking, where his actions confirm deep, self-sacrificial love for her. Dune dismisses Sabaku as expendable after his failure, highlighting his role as a manipulated pawn.

Sabaku is noted as the first villain in the Pretty Cure franchise to be a parent of a Cure. His legacy intertwines with Yuri's resolve to protect the Tree of Hearts, framing his arc as a tragedy of brainwashing and redemption through paternal sacrifice.
