Description
Haruka Ozawa is a 20-21-year-old second-year university student, born March 30. She possesses short, spiky pink hair, light purple eyes, an average height, light skin, a noticeable ahoge, and is attractive. Her childhood was marked by the death of her identical twin sister, Ayaka Ozawa, in a car accident at age seven; Ayaka died chasing a ball Haruka threw onto the road. This tragedy left Haruka with persistent survivor guilt and self-blame, manifesting as depressive tendencies, a subconscious death wish, and a history of masking her pain with a cheerful "Stepford Smiler" facade. As children, the twins had a tomboy (Haruka, with boyish short hair and outfits) and girly-girl (Ayaka, preferring dresses) dynamic. Haruka faced bullying for her appearance, which Ayaka defended her against, and Haruka felt inferior to Ayaka's academic, athletic, and musical talents.
Haruka evolves from a naïve everygirl to a resilient participant in supernatural investigations. Her personality is defined by loyalty, empathy, and a strong sense of responsibility, often immersing herself in others' problems. Initially ordinary with no supernatural connection, she demonstrates analytical skills tied to her social psychology studies. She exhibits clumsiness, optimism, and a tendency to de-escalate conflicts through kindness. Her guilt and anxiety align with Enneagram Type 6 traits, including seeking security from figures like Yakumo Saitou, and she is characterized as an ISFJ personality—reserved, practical, and organized.
Haruka's narrative begins when she approaches Yakumo Saitou to exorcise a ghost possessing her friend Miki. She becomes his primary assistant in investigations, leveraging her growing confidence and deductive skills despite lacking innate psychic abilities. Notably unafraid of Yakumo's red eye, which she calls "beautiful," she challenges his isolation. This interaction sparks mutual romantic feelings, though neither initially acknowledges it. Their relationship is a "savvy guy, energetic girl" dynamic, with Haruka's persistence overcoming Yakumo's reluctance and facilitating his emotional opening. Her journey resolves her guilt when Yakumo helps her communicate with Ayaka's spirit, confirming Ayaka held no resentment.
Beyond Yakumo, Haruka interacts with detective Kazutoshi Gotou, who jokingly "ships" her with Yakumo while advising her to "dump" him. She inadvertently attracts affection from Yuutarou Ishii but remains focused on Yakumo. Her family includes her mother, Keiko Ozawa, who resembles an older Haruka in the anime.
Haruka's character arc concludes with her pursuing a career in psychology, interning as an elementary school counselor. This path utilizes her empathy and reconciles her traumatic past through helping others.
