Description
Duke Gorgon, also known as Archduke Gorgon, originated as a high-ranking officer in the ancient Mycenae Empire's military. He initially served under Zeus, overseeing defenses against invaders and Uranus' soldiers. Dissatisfied with the empire's perceived decline under Zeus, Gorgon betrayed him, shifting allegiance to Hades. He conspired with Tristan and Isolde (later Baron Ashura) to restore the Mycenae Empire's former dominance. Their plot involved capturing Baron Ashura as a sacrifice for Zeus, enabling Hades's attack. Gorgon survived ensuing conflicts like the sinking of Bardos, while Tristan and Isolde entered stasis, leaving him to continue serving the Emperor of Darkness.

Physically, Gorgon possesses a centaur-like form combining a humanoid torso with the lower body of a saber-toothed tiger. His appearance varies: one depiction shows green skin, red hair, black armor, and a cape attached to the tiger half; another presents a blue-skinned, bearded human torso in Greek armor atop a yellow saber-toothed tiger body.

Gorgon's personality centers on extreme Mycenae nationalism and unwavering imperial loyalty, driving betrayals like abandoning Zeus or exploiting allies to achieve supremacy. He views those misusing Mycenae technology for personal ambition, such as Dr. Hell, with contempt and cruelty. Though prideful and dismissive toward subordinates, he occasionally acknowledges acts of bravery like Baron Ashura's self-sacrifice.

He commands Mycenae mechanical forces, including golems and Warrior Beasts, demonstrating strategic acumen in deploying technology and deception. In combat, Gorgon wields spears, swords, and shields, augmenting attacks with his tiger body's claws and strength.

In the modern era, Gorgon confronted Dr. Hell for misappropriating Mycenae technology. He formed a temporary alliance, providing limited forces like Ghost Mechanical Beasts while intending to eliminate Hell post-objectives. Gorgon later reclaimed control of Mycenae golems from Hell but was temporarily overwhelmed by Count Brocken's multiple bodies. He resurfaced when Baron Ashura summoned the Mycenae armies, continuing service until the empire's resurgence. Following Dr. Hell's defeat, Gorgon rejoined Mycenae leadership but faced demotion due to internal power struggles. During a Great Mazinger assault, he sacrificed himself to shield Dandaros, suffering catastrophic damage that destroyed his tiger half. The Great General of Darkness commended his service before replacing him with Marquis Janus.

In non-Japanese adaptations like Tranzor Z, the character was renamed "Genghis the Ghastly," omitting his Mycenae origins and depicting him as a villain seeking conquest after Dr. Hell's downfall.
