Description
The Goddess is the principal deity and central antagonist of the world in which the story takes place. She is an unnamed, powerful entity who serves as the overseer of that realm and is responsible for its creation and governance. Her actions, driven by a deeply flawed and vain personality, are the catalyst for the protagonist's journey.
Her background is tied to an agreement made with Makoto Misumi's parents, who hailed from her world. In exchange for allowing them to live on Earth, they were obligated to surrender one of their future children to her. When the time came, Makoto was summoned to her world to fulfill this contract and serve as a hero. However, upon seeing him, she made a snap judgment based entirely on his appearance, deeming him unattractive by the standards of her world. She subsequently stripped him of his hero title and banished him to the desolate wasteland at the edge of her domain. Demonstrating her capricious and unethical nature, she then promptly summoned two other, more aesthetically pleasing young people from Earth, Hibiki and Tomoki, to serve as the world's heroes in his place.
The Goddess's personality is defined by extreme narcissism, arrogance, and a profound lack of empathy. She is consumed by superficiality, placing an immense value on physical beauty and scorning anything she perceives as ugly. Her actions consistently show a disregard for the will and well-being of others, as she treats the people she summons as disposable tools to be used for her own purposes. For example, she later unceremoniously drops Makoto from a great height over a city under attack to deal with a demon invasion, offering a reward only after he confronts her about her mistreatment of him. Her primary concern is maintaining her own pride, dignity, and authority, and she eventually comes to see Makoto's rapidly growing power as a direct threat to her position.
In the story, the Goddess plays the role of the primary antagonist, though her influence is often indirect. Her rejection of Makoto forces him to forge his own path among the demihumans and monsters she despises, leading to the creation of a new community that exists outside her influence. Her favored human nations are in a state of ongoing conflict with the demons, a conflict she manages by summoning and empowering heroes to fight on behalf of humanity. Her relationship with Makoto is one of contempt, fear, and growing antagonism. While she initially dismisses him as an unsightly nuisance, his escalating power forces her to eventually acknowledge him as a dangerous rival. She also has a relationship with the Moon God Tsukuyomi, who facilitated the summoning contract. Disgusted by the Goddess's treatment of Makoto, Tsukuyomi bestowed his own immense power upon the boy, essentially setting him on a path to rival and potentially surpass her.
The character shows little to no positive development, remaining a self-centered and manipulative deity throughout the narrative. A key detail about her development is her ability and tendency to change her appearance. She often keeps her true face hidden, but when appearing to her heroes, she adopts forms tailored to appeal to them, such as a beautiful young maiden for Hibiki or a young girl for Tomoki. Her true form, when glimpsed, is that of a voluptuous woman with long, intricately braided blonde hair.
As a deity, her notable abilities are immense. She possesses the power of creation, having shaped her world's geography, its inhabitants, and even the fundamental laws of nature and magic. She can summon individuals from other worlds, such as Earth, and grant them specialized abilities and blessings to serve as her heroes. One of her blessings allows the humans of her world to learn the common language as infants and receive a general boost in power. She is also able to bestow or withhold the ability to understand the common language, as she cruelly gave Makoto the ability to understand every language except that of the humans, whom he was forbidden to interact with. Her ability to change her own appearance at will, from a young girl to a mature woman, further demonstrates her fluid control over her form.
