Description
Fouquet, notorious as "Fouquet the Crumbling Dirt" or "Fouquet the Clod," terrorizes Tristain as an infamous earth mage thief. She targets nobles, stealing valuable magical artifacts and treasures across the kingdom. Her signature thefts involve transmuting doors, walls, and barriers into sand or dirt using alchemy for stealthy infiltration, or violently breaching defenses by summoning a massive 30-meter-tall earth golem. Fouquet leaves mocking notes at each crime scene, like "I got your treasure. —Fouquet the Crumbling Dirt," cementing her infamy. Her exceptional earth magic allows her to bypass even magically reinforced defenses and evade capture. Authorities initially know nothing of her appearance, gender, or true identity, identifying her only as a dangerous triangle-class earth mage.
Her real identity is Matilda de Saxe-Gotha, a disgraced noble stripped of her title from Albion's high society. Posing under the alias "Longuevuille," she serves as secretary to Headmaster Osmond at Tristain Academy of Magic, using this position to gather intelligence. She executes a theft of the Staff of Destruction from the Academy vault during the Familiar Exhibition, summoning her golem when Louise's failed magic accidentally cracks the vault's barrier. Fouquet escapes on the golem after leaving her customary note. Osmond later sends Louise, Saito, Kirche, Tabitha, and Longuevuille (unaware of her secret) to capture Fouquet. During the confrontation, Saito destroys her golem using the Staff of Destruction (revealed as a rocket launcher). Longuevuille then reveals herself as Fouquet, seizing the Staff, but Saito incapacitates her with Derflinger, knowing the weapon is expended. The Royal Guard arrests her.
An unknown assailant aligned with Reconquista, a revolutionary faction aiming to overthrow Albion's monarchy, breaks Fouquet out of prison. She joins Reconquista as a mercenary, lending her powerful earth magic to their cause. Her involvement includes meetings with Cromwell, Reconquista's leader, to advance their plans during the Academy's summer vacation, driven by her desire for revenge against the nobility that ruined her.
As a triangle-class earth mage, Fouquet commands spells including Earth Penetration (barrier transmutation), Golem Summoning, Levitation, and Shockwave attacks. Her abilities let her sense structural weaknesses like wall thickness through touch. She displays overconfidence in confrontations, especially when wielding potent artifacts like the Staff of Destruction, leading to tactical mistakes. She reacts strongly to being called "old," hinting at personal insecurity. Her motivations combine greed for magical power with vengeance against the noble class that cast her out.
