Description
Hailing from the East Blue, Bentham—known as Mr. 2 Bon Clay—operated as an officer agent in the Baroque Works criminal syndicate under the codename Mr. 2 Bon Kurei. This dual designation combined the numeric identifier for male agents ("Mr. 2") and the holiday-themed names for female agents ("Bon Kurei"), reflecting his identity as an okama.
Standing 238 cm tall, Bentham sports a flamboyant appearance with heavy makeup, a wide grin, and ballet-inspired attire adorned with swan motifs forming the number "2." His signature outfit includes a pink overcoat, blue medieval-style garments, and ballet shoes. Later, he wears Impel Down's prisoner stripes before adopting royal attire as queen of Newkama Land, complete with larger wings and a furry collar.
Bentham consumed the Paramecia-type Mane Mane no Mi (Clone-Clone Fruit), allowing him to perfectly replicate the appearance, voice, and size of anyone he touches with his right hand; he reverts by touching his face with his left hand. This power enables tactical deception. He fights using Okama Kenpo, blending ballet with martial arts kicks and punches, and enhances his kicks with detachable steel-beaked swan accessories from his costume that extend like rifles.
Initially opposing the Straw Hat Pirates during the Arabasta Arc, Bentham was rescued by them after nearly drowning. He memorized their appearances with his ability, complicating Baroque Works' order to eliminate them. After impersonating King Nefertari Cobra to incite civil unrest, he battled Sanji—exploiting Sanji's reluctance to harm women by transforming into Nami—but lost. Despite this, he sacrificed himself by posing as Luffy to divert Marines, enabling the crew's escape and declaring it "the okama way."
Imprisoned in Impel Down, Bentham aided Luffy's jailbreak by disguising himself as guards like Hannyabal and Magellan to bypass security. He facilitated opening the Gates of Justice, remaining behind as a diversion against Warden Magellan. Presumed dead, he survived to become queen of Newkama Land, a hidden crossdresser society in Impel Down's Level 5.5.
In the short film "Dream Soccer King!," Bentham joined Buggy’s "Villain All-Stars" team for a penalty shootout against the Straw Hats, scoring against goalkeeper Koby to temporarily tie the match. Chronologically set after his initial encounter with the crew but before Arabasta, Princess Vivi’s presence as a cheerleader confirms this timing.
Bentham exhibits flamboyance, emotional expressiveness, and fierce loyalty, often singing, dancing, or reciting poetry to the irritation of allies and enemies. He prioritizes friendship over allegiances, with his self-sacrifices underscoring his personal code of honor—summarized by his catchphrase "okama way!" He admires Emporio Ivankov and shares a rivalry with Baroque Works agent Mr. 1 (Daz Bonez), mirroring Sanji and Zoro's dynamic.
